What do my chances look like at Penn

bumpety bumpety bump

whats diff bettwed ED and normal???

ED is a binding agreement. Barring extraordinary circumstances, by applying ED you have committed to attending Penn contigent on your acceptance.

RE OP: Your chances are good. Not to be condenscending, but AA will definitely help you. Penn has a strong and active black community, as well as carribean and african communities, to a lesser extent.

There's nothing in your stats that will PREVENT admission, so knock em out with your essays

shinobi, you're looking really solid. If you got above 2100 there would probably be no doubt about acceptence.

bumper bumpit

my best advice is, apply. you simply never know. also, if you apply ed and get in, don't worry about the debt/loans/etc.

i understand where you're coming from though. i got into penn but i was willing to turn it down in a flash and study at Rutgers College...stupid some may say. but just thinking about the tution all the other expenses that comes w/ it, it gives me a headache. however, penn is my final choice. though from time to time, my tution and all the expenses i've imposed on my family has saddened me occasionally, i try not to think of it in that way.

however, do think of education as a worthwhile investment. trust me when i say this, Penn is a worthwhile investment.

best wishes. good luck.

Regarding early admission:

If it's true that it's a binding agreement, are you allowed to only apply for one EA program? Could you apply EA to Stanford and Harvard and MIT at the same time or - due to the nature of how EA works in itself (being binding commitment and all...) - can you only to one school w/ an EA. Also, what are the typical deadlines for EA (deadlines for top schools in general..). Can you do EA for grad. programs?

applying early admission to stanford and harvard and mit at the same time isn't recommended. when you apply early admission, you're only suppose to apply to ONE school. however, i do know some that did apply to a few early admission schools (they didn't get in). however, if you do apply early admission to stanford, harvard, mit, and get into all or at least two, you're binded to go. if some of these schools, find out that you did apply early admission and get accepted to all they might revoke your admission. i know of a girl that applied early admission to Harvard and Princeton. she choose harvard, however, harvard later revoked her admission because of the nature of the situation. all i can say is apply to one school.

however, early action is non binding. if havard, mit, stanford all have early action, you can certainly apply to all.

good luck.

if my uw GPA is 3.87 (quite tough curriculum), but I rank sth like 15/124 (it's a really competitive private school), will this hurt me a great deal?

i doubt it. rank isn't the only primary factor that admissions considers. they'll look at it and since you're coming from a private competitive school, circumstances are different. so i wouldn't worry about it too much. keep up your gpa, do well on the sats. good luck.
