<p>That would be a little dressed up, but no one cares. Some people like to dress nicely, others roll out of bed and show up in sweatpants and flip flops.</p>

<p>You will want a lot of casual clothes in general - it is a college campus. You go from class to lunch to lab to class to your room, to IM sports, to class etc. </p>
<p>Some nice clothes are good for formal dinners, events etc.</p>

<p>Most public parties are usually themed (80s, casino, eurotrash, schoolgirls…sorry parents!), so neither semiformal or club-ish, really. For private parties (not big themed events, just people hanging out in someone’s room), the host may set a theme - if not, it’s whatever. Girls tend to try to dress up more than the guys, as you might expect, but I’ve had weeks were I’ve gone out in jeans and a t-shirt and nobody cares.</p>
<p>I tend to dress up a bit more than the average bear (dresses/skirts to class are totes okay) and I’ve never received anything but compliments for it. There are always a few people who suit up for exams to psych themselves up.</p>

<p>I have a few friends who dressy very classy, even just for class (no pun intended). One of my friends wears a dress everywhere.</p>

<p>I recommend bringing a good mix of both, because it’s nice to dress nicely, and you will need to sometimes, but I had many days where I just wanted to hop out of bed and go to class, so shorts and a t-shirt were the way to go.</p>
<p>Parties are usually themed and you will dress accordingly. One thing I wasn’t ready for was the wild themes you might want to fit in with. I actually contemplated bringing an old plastic “Hercules” chest armor from my childhood since my O-Week was Hercules themed, but I decided against it. I regret that. One thing I’ve learned in my first semester here is that there will be a multitude of cases in which you will need something you might not otherwise want people to know you own. It’s pretty great actually.</p>
<p>There are events in which you’d want to dress up, though. Christmas parties tended to be pretty dressy.</p>
<p>Walking from Hanszen to Brown (about as “cross-campus” as you can get) only took me 10-15 minutes. You won’t have to walk any longer than that. Most classes are 5 minutes away at most, but you might find you don’t ever have to walk from class to class. You’ll probably have a break between classes.</p>
