I like to wear my chino pants and dress shirt. Is it weird to take that to college?

Only if you add a bow tie. Depends on the school.

In my opinion, yes. But that doesn’t mean that you’ll be completely out of place. In my experience most people wear jeans/t-shirts, and many people wear sweats/t-shirts. At my school it seems like the majority of girls wear yoga pants on an almost daily basis. I find it odd to dress up to go to school, but if you’re doing it because that’s simply how you prefer to dress every day, then go right ahead. There’s no real reason to do it though if you’re worried about making impressions.

Depends on school. My schools kinda preppy so chinos wouldn’t be weird at all, and depending on dress shirt maybe.

College isn’t like high school, you can dress how you like without someone getting in your face about it. : )

I go to a large public school and here it is not even slightly weird to dress formally. You dress however you want to dress. Every day I have at least a few people dressed formally. I never even thought of the idea of dressing formal as something weird and it’s my 4th year here. Many people will sometimes have events that require formal clothing and so they show up to class in that before they eventually go on to their event. Some just like dressing formal.

As others have mentioned, most people won’t even notice what you’re wearing. I don’t exactly pay attention to the things that people are wearing at my school.

Aside from all the girls in yoga pants. Because it’s just kind of hard to miss that.

LOL, I live in yoga pants and yoga leggings. They’re so comfortable.

There’s a guy at my school who dresses as Indiana Jones everyday, and I have not seen a single person give him a hard time, or even pay attention to him for more than a mere glance. He literally has the satchel and the whip at his hip. He’s just doing him. Just do you.

No one cares about anything in college. People do their own thing and as long as you aren’t doing something that directly impacts other people, no one will hassle you. College is beautiful in that way.

That’s funny. I wish Indiana Jones went to my school.

I do have Dexter from Dexter’s Lab at my school. This kid wears this white lab coat every day. He was in calc I and calc II with me last year, and I’ve seen him around campus a bunch of times so far this semester. I have -literally- never once seen this kid without this lab coat. Ever. I don’t think he washes it very often though, so it’s a bit problematic…lol

I didn’t start dressing good until I joined college. But the majority of the student body will probably wear a hoodie and gym shorts with sandals.

I know a very nice guy down the hall that wears tons of bowties and other formal wear. Our dorm loves him and makes it a positive thing about him. Someone got him a Dr. Who bowtie for dorm secret santa. Just do you and be confident in it and no one will give you any trouble, even if most people will wear very causal bordering on pajama clothing.

You are going to live there for 4 years or so. Be yourself!

Is it still white?

I agree! Dress how you like. I like to dress semi-formal around twice a week for my ballroom dance class and the other two days wear casual clothes. It’s nice to mix it up a bit, but if you take pride in looking nice, people of the other gender are bound to notice

“Is it still white?”

It’s more of a pale yellow/gray now.

He sat right by me in Calc I, and the kid was pretty stinky. I made a point of not sitting near him in Calc II.

I’ve see plenty of people who always dress formally, but honestly it only really registers the first couple times I see it. After that point I barely notice it and figure that’s just them being themselves. If I see someone who normally doesn’t dress like that dressing formally one day, I just assume there’s some kind of event that they’re part of.

Personally I’m one that’s most comfortable in jeans, a t shirt, and any jacket or sweater that’s appropriate for the weather that day. Just do what you’re comfortable with and people won’t care so long as you’re not interfering with anyone else going about their day.

I wore a shirt and tie to class just about every day. It was often with jeans and most often knit ties with a button down oxford shirt. I was just about the only one. People rarely asked.
