If I apply to boarding school, I would be coming in as a sophomore. I know all schools have a welcome thing for freshmen, but do they do anything for sophomores?

Your question is not one anybody can give a general answer to. It depends on which schools your thinking of. Undoubtedly some BSs must have sophomore welcoming programs, while others don’t.

Regardless, I know lots of people that started attending BS as incoming sophomores, and all were very happy and integrated into their schools with ease.

In general, even if there is no specific “welcoming thing” for new sophomores, they still make friends and mix in well because BSs take lots of new kids for sophomore year, so nobody has to worry about being the only newbie. Also, at most of the top tier schools (I don’t know much about the lower tier ones) returning students are really kind, welcoming, and all that other stuff.

Basically I wouldn’t worry about the social aspects of attending BS as a new sophomore. You’ll be fine. :)

At many schools it is very common for new students to come in for their sophomore year, and even more common when the economy is bad. The school I’m affiliated with does an orientation for all new students regardless of grade, a retreat for all new boarding students, and then a retreat for students based on grade. By the time week three rolls around you can no longer tell who the new kids are.

Okay, that’s reassuring. I was worried that I wouldn’t fit in.
