my school sweatshirt, jeans and a hat...anything comfortable

generally jeans and a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. once a week I have to go to one class in my riding clothes because of an early equestrian team practice. there's a pretty wide range of people...some people actually get dressed up, other just put on a jeans and a sweatshirt/shirt, other are wandering around in sweatpants.

I usually wear jeans or dark pants and a nice top. I like to look neat and put together, though not necessarily fancy. I also don't really wear sneakers, so that probably makes my outfit look a little bit "dressier."

I agree that I am more likely to sit next to a boy who is well dressed, though that doesn't necessarily mean polo shirt. T-shirts are fine as long as they are clean, unwrinkled, and fit correctly. Just as long as the guy doesn't look slovenly.

Popular brands at my schools are probably more along the lines of J.Crew than Abercrombie.

That would actually suck. It's easier to stand out and be baller when 80% of the guys are wearing hollister or a&f.

"Boys in polos (especially Hollister, A&F, AE) are usually cute, which makes me want to sit by them ;-)"

Thank you to caillebotte.

What about having to choose between sitting next to an ugly guy wearing a polo or a cute one wearing a t-shirt?

i sit next to the guy wearing birkenstocks..

Russell7: what? I know girls with not-so-kickass bodies who dress well and have great style...and consequently get good-looking guys. I also know girls with sweet bodies who get no guys because they dress grossly. Nice clothing is a good investment for everyone. Everyone has attractive and unattractive features. Thinner people may have more options and will find nicer clothes more easily, but that doesn't mean heavier people have no attractive features. Have you ever heard of "what not to wear" or shows along those lines?
And, what do you expect bigger people to do? Give up on ever looking nice and go live in a hole forever? Just buy terrible clothes and accept that they're unattractive to the world? I don't think so...but that's just my opinion, I guess.

To be fair, I did say "it depends on the individual as well... ...I guess it'd be ignorant to believe that there aren't people with lower standards."

I never said anything about fat people giving up; I'm all about self improvement. And for that reason I advocate going to the gym and dieting - attaining a figure that's actually attractive and then buying nice clothes for when you're thin instead of buying them all in XL.

I mean I guess that nice clothes will make anyone look a bit better. But I just find it funny when fat people concentrate on finding nice -big- clothes instead of slimming down, since most people won't find them attractive regardless of what they wear. In a way I judge these people because they obviously care about looking good if they buy expensive clothes, but they only do things that give instant results (buying something) and not things that take will power like getting/keeping in shape. And no I don't believe that fat people have any attractive feature regarding their body. Nice feet maybe. I don't know.

One funny (albeit kind of unrelated) example that I have is a friend of mine. She put on some weight and grew out of all of her clothes. She gave away all of her expensive clothes to her friends and just bought new stuff. I mean, why not just lay off the krispy kremes so that you can fit back and look good in your old stuff?

Those fat chicks that get good looking guys don't get them because of their clothes. The guys probably just can't do better (personality/confidence reasons or otherwise) or else they're the rare chubby chaser. Lastly, LOL at chicks with sweet bodies not getting guys. I don't believe that story and will never believe it. A chick with a nice body can get guys (maybe not models, but guys nonetheless) regardless of the clothes she wears provided that she isn't a severe case of butter face. And sorry for this giant post. Generally I try to keep posts short, but this is an area that I have pretty strong opinions on.

I totally agree with WAVE24....a girl who doesn't have a model-perfect figure but wears nice clothes is always nicer-looking to me, than a girl with a hot body but dresses sluttily.

And jeez, Russel. Some people just don't like to work out. Some people feel great when they get the endorphin high, others can't get it or feel too self-conscious going to the gym.

I'm a skinny guy with pretty thin arms, and a lot of the time I would really like to be more muscular. So do you think it's silly that, when I wear button-up shirts (or layer in the fall or winter), I can feel better about my appearance than in the summer? I bet other people kind of feel the same way.

What's butter face?

It's a girl that has a nice body and a not so nice face.

"Everything looks good, but her face". = butterface.

You guys are really heavy on the euphemisms. You're lumping every girl that doesn't have a "model perfect figure" into one category. I am not. I'm specifically talking about chubby or fat. There are chicks without model perfect figures that aren't either of those.

Yeah, some people don't like to work out and I respect that. But like I said: it's funny when people want and try to look good, but only focus on the things that are easy to do, especially when it doesn't do much for them. You don't even need to work out to lose weight. You can do it on diet alone.

I'm kind of neutral toward that. That example doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm talking about.

^^i sure hope you're super hot, russell..

Hmm...I kinda get what you're saying, Russell7. I agree that people who are unsatisfied with their bodies should be proactive about it...instead of simply buying nice clothes to try and compensate. But still, bigger people will look better well-dressed, as anyone else will. And, say someone fat decides to change their body, and hits the gym like mad. What do they do in the interim between their old and new bodies? Wear bad clothes?

And, honestly, everyone DOES have attractive features, in my opinion. Fat girls can have pretty faces/eyes/hair that can be highlighted by the right clothes. And attractive to YOU is not attractive to EVERYONE. Some guys love curvy girls. You may just be attracted to skinny girls, which is all and well, but you need to understand that other people are attracted to other things, as a result of different tastes or standards.

You would be surprised. Let me give you an example. There's a girl I know who is curvy...has an awesome chest, butt, hips, legs. She dresses really well, and accentuates her good features. Guys fall over themselves to get with her, whereas another girl I know, with a thinner, more "ideal" body, dresses awful and has lots of trouble with guys. And both have pretty faces. This is an extreme example, but you see what I mean.

Chicks with sweet bodies can be gross. Those who dress like sluts or are grimy are NOT hot AT ALL. I'd much rather be with a girl with a not-as-nice body who has style and personality, a million times over. I apologize for the length!

Russel7 - I guess the real question we're getting hung up on in this discussion is what is the threshold for when someone should focus on getting in shape rather than buying nice clothes? (I didn't mean for that to sound *****y if it came out that way)

If by chubby/fat you mean people who are actually like, overweight, then that's one thing. I think the thing that gets people upset is when words like "thin" are used...because a lot of people fall into the medium category of average/normal/athletic and that creates a grey area where a lot of girls feel like if they aren't THIN (but are still within normal part of the BMI range) they don't have any chance of looking attractive.

^^i sure hope you're super hot, russell..

Of course.

*What do they do in the interim between their old and new bodies? Wear bad clothes?
*

Whatever they want really. I'm not trying to preach in this thread; I'm just stating how I view certain people and how I find certain things funny.

Some guys love curvy girls. You may just be attracted to skinny girls, which is all and well, but you need to understand that other people are attracted to other things, as a result of different tastes or standards.

Well curvy is the worst euphemism for fat. Curvy means that you have a small waist and wide hips and bust, etc. It depends on bone structure and it does not mean fat/chubby.

And, honestly, everyone DOES have attractive features, in my opinion. Fat girls can have pretty faces/eyes/hair that can be highlighted by the right clothes.

Accentuating the face mostly has to do with colour, though. The point of expensive clothes are to get the right material and fit that will fit and shape your body well.

Russel7 - I guess the real question we're getting hung up on in this discussion is what is the threshold for when someone should focus on getting in shape rather than buying nice clothes?

I'm just going to retract what I initially said. I did say that expensive clothes will make anyone look a bit better, so anyone go ahead and wear them whether you're fat or skinny. But if you actually want to look good and not just look like a fat person wearing expensive clothes, you should try to get in shape.

I think the thing that gets people upset is when words like "thin" are used...because a lot of people fall into the medium category of average/normal/athletic and that creates a grey area where a lot of girls feel like if they aren't THIN (but are still within normal part of the BMI range) they don't have any chance of looking attractive.

Well athletic women are usually pretty low bodyfat (look up pictures of allison stokke or however it's spelled). Can't really be lumped in with average/normal at all. And if you think that by thin I mean runway model - I don't. But if you have extra fat that hangs over your jeans in any way, I classify you as chubby. One thing I noticed when I was in Phoenix (I'm from Canada) was how fat the chicks were down there. Maybe average for you guys is different than average up here.

Oh and don't even bring BMI into this. BMI is pretty useless. You can be in the normal range for BMI and still be fat. You can be in the overweight range and be in shape - although that's usually just men that have worked out and have gained muscle. BMI represents what's normal from a medical perspective for the average person, but does not represent what's attractive to people.

I agree with you about the word "curvy." Nothing is worse than seeing a magazine calling a plus sized woman who is built like a refrigerator "curvy."

ahahaahahahaha that was friggin funny.

okay usually in large lecture hall types that aren’t my majors I typically don’t care what I wear as long as I am comfterable with what i am wearing(sorry about the typo) whereas with my own major i am typically with a bunch of girls everyday, and the group of girls that I normally sit with are wearing clothes that look just like they walked out of a fashion magazine haha so I normally care more about what I wear in front of them so they don’t think i am a major geek or something like that

More evidence that girls are the shallower and dumber side.
