What do you believe is the major deciding factor for admission to NEU?

Well, I've applied already (Yay) but I'm beginning to doubt myself ... a lot.

Northeastern is my top choice right now and I have a feeling that I'm going to get flat out rejected :( My GPA isn't enough. My test scores really suck. I'm an ORM. I have some ECs. I have no leadership positions. My essay is fine I guess from the good feedback I've received from the CC readers, but that's not going to cut it.

What's worse is that I've applied under the pharmacy program which is really competitive/selective and so they expect a lot more out of their applicants ...

I've been lurking through all the people's stats under the EA thread for pharmacy and people who got deferred with stellar stats makes me feel like I have no chance :-</p>

What do you believe is the major deciding factor for admissiont to NEU? (Pharmacy to be more specific)

In any pharmacy program, the GPA and SAT scores have always been the most important factor, just because they want people who are able to handle the pharmacy curriculum set out for us.

The most critical factor for all college apps is gpa, sats, and class rigor. That’s not to say an outstanding essay won’t help because it definitely will, especially if you are weak in the stats area.

Stop worrying because there is nothing else you can do. Apply to other schools if you haven’t and just wait. Good luck.

Apply to University of Sciences in Philly if you havent. Its not a very hard to get into the schools pharmd program. They take kids with 3.2 GPA and 1150 SATs for their pharmacy program. Apply ASAP to it because its rolling.

Eh, well I’m looking into schools that are near me, so preferabbly nowhere farther than 3 hours driving distance. Plus, my GPA isn’t as bad as I made it out to be. It’s a 3.8 GPA but a 25 ACT (1700-1730 SAT) … That’s my downfall. Everything else is pretty good. I’m just iffy on my test score which I know is pretty important when making decisions.

3.8 is nothing bad. Maybe you should consider taking the SATs in Feburary or March? Focus on Math and Reading.

But isn’t it a bit too late to do that now? I already applied last week and I can’t take the SAT since I don’t have subject tests, which is why I took the ACT w/ writing. Ah well … Just have to hope for the best I guess.

Northeastern said that they don’t even consider SAT IIs

^Oh whoops haha. Well considering the majority of the schools I applied to I assumed they needed SATIIs as well. But I see no more SATs/ACTs tests in the future for me … I’ve taken the SAT once and the ACT twice (1st incidence was terrible - High fever) I feel like I’m overdoing it and I know for sure the SAT isn’t the test for me :|I’m just going to wait for my decision. It’s fine I guess.

I think my guess would definitely be GPA. Looking at the stats from admitted applicants from my high school, their GPAs tend to be high with ACT/SATs that are a little less extraordinary, but still decent. The admitted student with the lowest stats at my school had about a 3.8 and an ACT score of 26.

@JordanSails - Was the student a pharmacy applicant?

The pharmacy applicants all have high GPAs (with a rigorous schedules) and very good SAT scores and pretty good extra curricular activities as well. Everything factors in but if you are strong in 2 out of the 3 categories, I am sure you will do fine.

I actually couldn’t tell you, sorry! I only saw the archives for applicants in general with no other details aside from high school stats.

@JordanSails Ah, okay. Thanks!
@00RxM7 I really hope so, thanks!
