For the SAT, what do you consider low? I thought that 1800 was a great score and I could not fathom anyone many people getting 2000+. I thought anything lower than 1600 was low but didn't think 1600 was a bad score.

Then I got here lol. I do not understand how people say they have a bad SAT score with a 2000 or even a 2100. I saw someone mention getting an 1800 and wanting to cry. Its ridiculous how people thing the only great SAT scores are 2200+.

From spending time on here I changed my perception and believe 2000+ is a great score. I would be so happy with a 2000, but I would even be accepting of a 1800.

To be honest it really varies by school.
Think of it more realistically…1800 is what…the 80-something %-ile? That, paired with a solid GPA, should get you into a nice state school.
To me, personally, anything that cracks the 90th%-ile in commendable. The upper-echelon of kids at my school hit the 90th-94th relatively easily and I stand as no exception. I’m happy with my equivalent 1940? score on the SAT and 29 on the ACT.
But maybe I’m just a babbling idiot content with whatever is thrown her way. Top 10% is a good marker for me, at least.

I’m not sure about the SAT, but at my school anything 30+ is considered great on the ACT. I got a 30.25 and on here that is probably below or at average. You have to understand that CC attracts the best and brightest. So don’t judge what is good based upon this website. We’re not exactly your average joes up here.

It’s people like you who disillusion others into believing that their SAT scores are horrible. If you ask me, anything below a 1600 can be considered “low,” but that’s actually considered AVERAGE by national standards.

I consider it something like this:

1600-1700: OK
1710-1800: Pretty good.
1810-1990: Good.
2000+: Great.

It all depends what standard you want to be compared to.

I mean, all the Private school science/math New Jersey kids probably all look at people with <2200’s as low. Everything depends on perspective. 2200 is much much higher than the median score.

I consider anything over 2100 as competitive for top-tier schools.

Anything over 2000 is highly competitive everywhere else.

1800+ is above average for most schools.

If you’re not applying to a tier 1 school, 1700+ is nothing to stress over.

1600+, given all else average-above average, makes you a likely candidate to most other schools.

I used to think 2250+ was fine. But recently, I was talking to someone, and they were like don’t worry you’ll get at least a 2300. Basically insinuating that anything lower is fail, which is kind of ridiculous imo lol.
