to me, a decent score on the SAT is a 2100-2190 and a fairly strong [to me anyways] score is 2200-2290. my question is, whats considered decent on the ACT? i got a 30 the first time =[ but im pretty sure i can raise that since the questions arent hard, its just the timing. now i know that i have to move faster, which is totally feasible. around what score would you say is the lowest acceptable one for ivys and sub ivys [hopkins etc.]?

34 on ACT for me is good, but thats only by my impressions on CC since i have yet to tke an ACT real or practice

i was thinking 34 too...based off of CC standards of course.

which is better, a 30 or 1980? [1320 CR+M] ugh, mediocre scores i know. =

32, because that's on the upper part of the average of the schools I want to go to.

I got a 30 too, and timing was also my problem. I didn't realize science would take so much! Retaking probably in June.

31/2100 is the beginning of very smart (in the real world, not necessarily on CC).

I think a balanced 2100 is the dividing line. 700, 710, 690 versus 800, 660, 640.

I got a 2070 and I thought it was horrible. I had a 217 PSAT and I was going for the 2200 range.

Average students say my score is insane, but I set a much higher bar than them.

34/2200...........

A good score is one that is higher than what you were expecting.

People in the "real" (non-CC world) think my son's 2120 is awesome. I do, too.

I think that if you take the PSAT in 9th or 10th grade and then improve a lot from that, you've done a good job.

For the world outside CC, I would say anything above a 2000.

Having gone through applications/admissions this past year with my D, it's become clear from results of who got in where that the combination of a great GPA, in depth ECs, rigorous courseload, great essays and rec letters are far more important than achieving a stellar SAT score. For top colleges(which include Ivies, S etc) an over 2100 (with balanced CR, M and W) is as good as a 2300 provided that those other attributes are there. This applies to those who are not URMs or athetic recruits. Have seen plenty of students with very high SATs, but medium GPAs etc denied.
The exception though is those schools that are highly tech oriented such as CalTech or Harvey Mudd.

A 4.0 is a good score for me.

I've definitely improved a lot since 9th and 10th grade.

But then my own standards were raised a lot then. I had some pretty bad grades in those two years as well. Now I get straight A's. Thinking back, I would've had a good chance at some top colleges if I was working this hard back then.

I think 2100 is the dividing line for me between "very smart" and "average smart"...

...anyone over 2250, I think is godly.

I got a 2120 (800 CR, 640 M, 680 W), then 2170 (690 M) w/superscoring

As everyone else has said, 2100 is the magic number. That was the lowest acceptable score for me.

2250 was just out of reach.

For me, a 30 would be an awesome score for me but at this rate, I'm happy if I get a 28/29.

34 ACT, 2300 SAT for me

Damn, only 30 short of a 2100.

So I guess I'm average smart even though I got 217 PSAT...

It's a thin line to cross.

I think for the average American, above an 1800 is good considering that ~1500 is the national AVERAGE score overall.
For many smart kids, over 2000 is good.
For kids from top high schools applying to top colleges...2200. In some cases (including here on CC where we see many many good scores)...2300.
