Hello CC. I am a rising junior planning on taking the SAT either at the end of this school year or the beginning of next.

I hear that it is imprudent to overwork yourself, and it is better to work in short times a day, such as maybe an hour after school. This leads me to ask, what is it that you do for that one hour a day? Are there any specific prep books you work through, or is it something else? Do you guys work through separate SAT sections? Or are practice tests and review all you do?

Whatever your SAT "regimen" may be, please list it here, and a "before and after" score would be nice too. Please name any books or materials you may have used also. I really need to do well on the SAT's, and I am willing to do whatever it takes.

I am very confused on how to go about this, and some feedback would be helpful. I initially planned on going all out in the two month summer period, but I now feel that I will be strained with time.

Thank you!

I got a 2380 on my SATs and what I mostly did to prepare is read a lot of books and solve a lot of practice tests.
Starting Score: 2180 (First Practice Test)
Did about 90 practice tests over a period spanning 4 months.
I pretty much stayed locked in my room without distractions for 5-7 hours a day. (This was during the summer)
Final Score: 2380 (December 2011 test)

Wow, that’s great improvement. What kind of books did you read, and how long would you take with each book? I am also a slow reader (hence why my CR score is so low) and really need to begin reading a lot more. I plan on doing he same thing in summer, but I want to start sooner. Thank you for your response!

Anyone else?

Some books I read:
Great Gatsby (2 hours)
Catcher in the Rye (2 hours)
Atlas Shrugged (3 days)
Lord of the Flies (2 hours)
The Sound and the Fury (2 hours)
Ulysses (4 days)

As you can tell, I am a very quick reader. I find that it helps if you actually ENJOY the book you’re reading, instead of just reading it because someone told you to.
