So it looks like i have a bit of a dilemma. I really want to major in computer science at the Bourns College of Engineering at UCR this next fall, but it looks like i may not be able to afford the dorms (residence halls) at the campus which are about $15k per year. I will not be getting any financial aid. This is due to my family having too much in savings towards their house. They are only willing to pay for tuition and books. My options may be to try off campus housing or commuting from home. If i choose to get an apartment, ill have to work for 19 hours a week. At least ill be able to stay near the campus and have a closer connection to the school. However, I can also commute 40 minutes each way. This way, i won’t have to work too much and i can still focus on getting a good GPA. I know the engineering major is really hard and it takes a lot of sacrifice, and i know that either option will put some sort of stress towards my work ethic. I also have a backup school, CSUF, which i live 15 minutes away from. I was really looking forward to going to UCR, but i don’t know if i can come through with it. SIR is due May 1 for both schools.
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.
