Yesterday I received an email message from them saying that they got my stats from a scholarship site and thought I'd be a good candidate for them and as an incentive for applying, they told me that they would waive the application fee, give me priority consideration for the trustee scholarship and give me an admissions decision within 3 weeks. I was pretty happy hearing about that and I am wondering whether I should really apply. I want to pursue pre med if that helps any.

Allegheny is a very good liberal arts college in the currently very snowy northwest corner of Pennsylvania. Did they tell you why they thought you would be a good candidate for them? Where do you live? What are your stats? What characteristics are you looking for in a college? While Allegheny is a fine place to earn a B.A. or B.S. prior to applying to medical school, so are hundreds of other colleges and universities. If you are looking to attend a large research university not too far from the beach there are probably some other places folks could suggest where you'd be happier.

Anyway, this is what was in that email:
Dear ********,

Based on the information you have provided on your Cappex profile it certainly appears that you are the type of student we would like to have at Allegheny. In fact, it appears that you would receive one of our prestigious Trustee Scholarships. A scholarship in the range of $10,000 to $20,000 per year is quite likely based on your achievements.

Because of your qualifications, we would like to provide to you the opportunity to apply to Allegheny with the following benefits:

* No Application Fee
* Priority Scholarship Consideration
* An Admission Decision Within Three Weeks

and then they went on to talk about the college.
As far as what I'm looking for, I wouldn't mind finally being able to see heavy snowfall. I want a college that feels comfortable, not toooo small but not so big that you feel invisible. I want friendly people and good teachers who are willing to assist where necessary and...a good education.

I was once told by the Director of Admissions at a different school (not Allegheny) that Allegheny was an excellent school especially in the sciences and that they have a very effective pre-med program. FWIW

But, I wouldn't turn down Harvard for Allegheny.

yeah collegehelp I was thinking the same thing.

But since I already have one acceptance and possibly another at tcnj (although I'm shooting for the BA/MD program there) I was wondering whether it made sense.

Is TCNJ considered to be better than allegheny?

Allegheny is a great school whose graduates are exceptionally high achieving. I think that if there is any chance you'd be happy there, you might as well apply.

Allegheny is an excellent college with very strong science programs. They have a good record for medical school. Allegheny also required everyone to complete a senior research project, so you will be guaranteed research opportunities. If you are looking at attending a small school rather than a large university, Allegheny is certainly worth applying to.
