Because I have short curly hair that I NEVER dry I don’t have my stylist dry it. She has gotten used to that request but I think she thinks I’m nuts in the winter!
I get my haircut by one stylist, and she does a great job blow-drying and styling it after she cuts it. I get my hair colored by another stylist, and I leave there with wet hair (even in the cold winter). I don’t see a point in paying her the extra money to dry and style it. I am one of those people who never blow-dry my hair. I wash it and shake it and let it air dry (helps that is it curly).
I go to a fast place similar to Supercuts and pay 21+ tax or so, SR rate. They also have kids rate. Normal rate is $26 or so.
I go to Great Clips and just had my first cut with a senior discount, $20 (no tax here on services). She usually half blows it dry just to get the excess hair off as I have a lot of hair. And then I go home and take a shower to get the rest of the excess hair off.
I go to Great Clips, but always ask for the same stylist. She has been nearly as good as any more expensive stylist I’ve tried in the past for about 1/3 the cost. If I have a coupon, I’ll pay the full amount plus tip (so the tip is often 2-3x the cost of the cut). The pampering is less of course, but I usually ask her not to blow dry, as I’m rarely going out immediately after the cut anyway.
I like Great Clips too. Cheap( sometimes only about $10 with a coupon, but I tip on the nondiscounted amount) and never really had a bad experience. I’ve only been once since Covid though , to get a trim before son’s wedding last year. During Covid I let my hair grow out and keep it in a short ponytail. And my husband has trimmed it for me a couple times ( I saw online how to trim a ponytail) so he is even a better buy than Great Clips!
I’d be pretty scared to try a discount place. In my city a good stylist can make a good living once they build a clientele. Those who work at the discount spots aren’t usually as good or they would be at a more lucrative salon.
My desire is simple—clip my hair so it curls under rather than flipping out at my neck. That last stylist I had was the best so far. I may try to get her again. It was Great Clips.
I pay $70 (before tip) for a cut, which includes a blowout.
$72 including tip for cut and blow dry.
I don’t think we are in “Good Buy” land anymore!!!
I noticed that… I thought maybe you decided to start a new thread, but looks like mod did. It’s all good.
I used to pay $85 for cut and dry, plus 20% or more tip.
Now I’m paying (a different person) $31 plus tip, for just a cut, and loving the savings.
I used to go to Great Clips. Now I have the perk of getting free haircuts by students at my school.
I just got my hair done today. A cut, color and blow dry is $75.00. With tip it is $90.00. I think it is a great deal.
Ugh, my cut and blow out is $90 before tip. I believe my highlights are around $250, before tip, with my colorist. That includes a glaze. My hair is longer than shoulder length with layers, so I can stretch it out and only go 3 - 4 times a year. It’s takes about 3 hours and I hate going.
I bought this clipper 15+ years ago and haven’t paid for a haircut since.
I had mine done last week - cut, base color and highlights (I only get the highlights about 2-4x/ year). Total was $220 plus tip.
I am VERY picky about stylists - my hair has multiple textures, cowlicks, etc.
I’m fine with Great Clips. But…. they no longer do perms, and I like to support the stylist who does my perms. She no longer has a shop, so she comes to the house. Haircut is $50 - I though that was a lot til reading the other posts.
Cut with wash and blow out $80 (this is very reasonable for a full service salon in our city)
Highlights (3x a year max) $ 150 each time
Color to cover grey (6 x year) $110 - when done all together it is a whooping $340 and 3 hours of my time too plus I tip.
I also touchup grey with a kit every 3-4 weeks on my own.
My college kids get their haircut 2-3x a year and one pays $110 and the other pays $90.
$65 without tip for cut and blowout. $150 without tip for cut and color.
