Hi there! I was recently accepted to UC Santa Cruz. I am thinking about going there or going to community college and transferring out after two years. Going to UCSC seems like a good idea because I want to do research and they are an awesome research school, I will have the college experience, its a beautiful school, and its a UC, but they are not considered a very prestige UC and I would have to pay a lot more than community college. Community college gives me time to really see if I really want to do research, and I could transfer to a better UC, but I am worried about classes being impacted and having to stay longer. Anyone go to Santa Cruz or have taken the community college route? Would love to get some advice. Thanks!
For the majority of Undergrad majors, it makes very little difference where you attend school. If interested in Grad school, then you would want to look at a more “prestigious” university. It really is a sad commentary on today’s HS grads, that are already contemplating transferring out of a very respectable school for something better. Do not go into a university with your mind set on transferring. After a year, you may end of loving it at UCSC and never want to leave. Make the best of your situation and attend UCSC. Good Luck to you.
Thanks for your input!
