Read this excerpt from my Choate letter:

"You should know that the decision was not based on you credetials -- which were quite impressive -- but rather on our inability to offer you the financial aid you need to attend our school. Unfortunately, our budget is not large enough to accommodate all the worth applicants. We certainly regret having to make these painful decisions, because, quite simply, if we had more financial aid we would have offered you a place at our school... It is truly our loss."

My mum has just emailed them, saying that we are more than willing to work with them and see if I can get put on a waiting list and we can pay more. They're even talking about taking out a loan from the bank, and working more jobs; the whole nine yards.

What do you think? Do you think that Choate will be willing to work with us and see if we can make it happen? I am just so miserable right now. My current school is rather horrid. I was so sure that someone would accept me and I could actually start being challenged at school.

I'm still holding out for Andover and Hotchkiss, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Did anyone else get a letter like mine? Do you think anything can be done?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

We of course can't speak for the schools, but I would say go for it! You never know what these schools are willing to do!

Thanks - I've just been waitlisted at Hotchkiss, so I'll keep hoping!

Yes. I got a letter EXACTLY like yours. LAST YEAR. I'm not even kidding. It's the same, word for word.

Really, karchakern? What did you do? Did you go somewhere else, or write them about it? I hope they'll let me and my family do something about it.

Choate does this... several years ago 2 of my son's friends got that letter, but got full packages from Loomis. Both did really well (at amazing colleges)... and I always thought really highly of Loomis, and was annoyed with Choate. Other schools are totally need blind... and I respect that.

Really? I should have applied to Loomis.

I don't think that Loomis is need blind, but I think they take good care of the kids they want. At need blind schools (Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Exeter, Groton etc) if you are wait listed, I believe they will meet your need if accepted... even if it is off the waiting list.

Hotchkiss isn't need blind...

I recieved the exactly same letter. And my parents and I also found another money source, and I just sent them an email asking if they can reconsider my case. So lily101, we're somehow on the same boat now, right? Wish you (and myself) luck.
