What do you think of my plan of applying to State?

Hi, I just wanted to see how other people think of my admission “road map” that I have it set up in my head.
I was denied from freshman admission back in 2015, went to Appalachian State University and got a GPA of 2.6, and now I am at State as a Non Degree Student with a 3.67 GPA. The cumulative GPA is 2.7 as of now, and I noticed that the GPA does not meet the 3.0 requirement for computer science at State. I am now planning to apply for the easiest college, College of Textile, and do CODA application for College of Engineering after taking more than 12 credit hours if and when accepted. This may delay my graduation for another year or two, but I think it is worth it to graduate from State with a degree in computer science. What do you think of my plan? I’d greatly appreciate any thoughts or tips!

P.S. I applied to UNC Charlotte for computer science as a safety school and got accepted.

A CODA to CS is not guaranteed and there are requirements beyond the GPA.

Have you asked anyone at State about your plan? Honesty, it sounds like you are trying to game the system.

Hi DecideSomeHow. Thanks for your thoughts. I did look over the requirements for CODA and confirmed that I do have most of the course requirements. I understand that it won’t be a easy switch to CoE since computer science is in high demands at State. I’m also planning to talk to my advisor about switching major if I get accepted to College of Textiles. Do you think it’s ok to proceed? Or should I do one more year at State as NDS? I’m trying to avoid going to Charlotte as much as I can since it’s really not worth it.

What you should do, as you have already mentioned, is talk to your adviser.

Your choice of textiles bothers me a little - the fact you describe it as “the easiest college” tells me that you don’t have any regard for the program. But the reality is that you could be stuck in textiles if you can’t CODA to anywhere else - are you prepared for that? If you can’t admit straight to CS, at least pick a program you are willing to accept.
