help us waiting. do you think it was numbers, hooks, legacy...what pushed you over to get accepted?

yes, for all those "in the red", throw us a bone!!!!

Definitely my essays. They were on a unique topic that related my very specific career goals to the college. I think my very focused and driven goals for the future showed promise. And the essays really showed my personality. It was a very informal tone, with jokes and things. It sounded like the it was me just talking to you. (Although, I did have to remove a few 'like's)

I'm not sure if this can be considered a bone, but probably my stats and rigor of courseload. I didn't like my essays a whole lot and my recs were iffy. But yay Cornell :)

It was definitely my writing skills, which helped me win several awards, as well as maintain high grades in extremely difficult AP courses and score high on standarized tests.

Also my passion for writing was reinforced by extra-curricular activities.

I got into the ILR btw.

essays and summer classes at cornell

GPA. super sexy essays. fit with program (ILR). originality.

pure luck.

i have no hooks, unless you call the bassoon a hook

i did barely any extracurriculars in high school

i have only average SAT scores

i started all 3 of my essays on October 31 :D

i totally bombed my interview: i am the proud owner of the infamous:
-------- Interviewer: "what sets you apart from all of the other applicants?"
-------- Me: "I don't know, probably nothing"
^maybe it was my blunt honesty that got me in. lol

I don't think anyone can tell for certain what gets them accepted. Maybe they just threw a bunch of applications on the floor in a pile and just happened to pick mine up... i don't know.

qft, me too. Except the bassoon part.

Yea, but Noober, you applied ED. For ED kids, they give an extra UMPH b/c they believe that these kids are dedicated to the school enough to not even wanna find out about other schools' decisions.

Also, you're in the Jersey area. It's a fact that Cornell takes more kids from the Tri-State area & New England more than anywhere.

I have a feeling this is what got me in as well. I don't have any hooks or anything that is impressive. I just have a passion for science, and I guess that's enough to get into the CoE.

essay and portfolio.

i had two essays that showed two different sides of me.

One was about me getting in trouble in SAT class... haha People always told me not to write an essay about my bad side or the SAT.

"Also, you're in the Jersey area. It's a fact that Cornell takes more kids from the Tri-State area & New England more than anywhere."

No no no no... Cornell does not take more kids from the Tri-State area necessarily. Cornell receives more applications from these areas, and in turn will admit more students from these areas as well. Applying from one of these areas does NOT improve your chances
