What does 1 bad grade really do?

Preface: I’m a rising junior, aiming for ivies, Stanford duke etc. I debate on a national level and my schedule this year was such:
AP Chem
Spanish IV Honors
English II Honors
AP Physics
AP World History
Pre Calc Honors
AP Art history
Next year looks like:
AP Lang
AP Calc AB
AP Spanish
AP Bio
APUSH
AP STATS or AP Physics C
Study Hall
Based on our system, I ended this year with a 4.6. It would be a 4.8 but I got a b in precalc. How much does this B affect me?

You’re not going to miss out on an acceptance based on a B.

Sorry, posted prematurely. I wanted to clarify; how does this b, looking at my schedule next year, impact my chances at a high college? Are b’s really that bad? My parents certainly think so…

None of us are admissions officers at the colleges you are targeting so all of this is just speculation. I can’t see any school rejecting you simply because you got one B on your entire transcript. On the other hand, if you are looking to study math or engineering at a highly competitive University, they will want to make sure that you have the requisite math skills to do well. So while one B shouldn’t hurt in you general, it might make a difference depending on your goals. If that is the case, an A in your next math class…I’m assuming Calc as a Jr? Should make the B in pre-calc fairly irrelevant.

Yeah AP is the next step. Im thinking of taking a course over the summer to shore up before next year, hopefully that helps.

Calling a B “bad” is just disingenuous, IMO.

Your clarification does not change @MaineLonghorn 's valid answer.

Which college did your parents attend with their 4.0 GPA? Don’t answer - it was a rhetorical question.

If you get rejected by a college, I highly doubt that the determining factor was a B. Every top college routinely rejects applicants with a 4.0/36/1600 while accepting some with lower stats. Grades are only part of the application. Good luck.

Going to an ivy league doesn’t make make your degree any more a bachelors.
