what does it mean if i received a postcard saying thanks from a college i applied to?

I got a postcard from a college I applied to. I do not hear back from them until April, but they basically wrote that they liked my essays. Is this a way of them politely rejecting me or delightfully accepting me?

It probably doesn’t mean anything. A postcard? This sounds like a mass mailing that likely went to everyone who applied.

It means they want to up their yield.

Well, it’s obviously not a rejection, but I wouldn’t look too much into it as a sign of acceptance either. I think wanton is right. One college I applied to is particularly good with ‘wooing’ their applicants; they mailed me a handwritten card from my tour guide and a free t-shirt all just for visiting! Can’t say I wasn’t impressed and it definitely put the idea into my head that they’re a school who gives their students individualized personal attention.
