What does it take to get into Hotel school?

Well for starters, I've never had a job, and I know a job recommendation is needed for the application. I'm from Singapore, and part-time jobs are rare for high school students. There are holiday jobs, but in my last holiday I volunteered at a local NGO and was a youth delegate at the UN Climate Change conference in Cancun, so I couldn't get a job... But if I get one after I graduate (end of Nov this year when my A levels are over) in the hotel/tourism sector, can I include that in my application? And what about that recommendation?

My parents are in the hotel business, so from my experience I know I want to study Hotel Administration. I practically spent my childhood in hotels haha, too bad I'm not an heiress or something.

I'm doing an independent research project on tourism and hope to get a tourism scholarship to pay if I get into Cornell. Will this help my application? Since they rarely give aid to intl applicants I've heard.

Some other stats to help chance me:
SAT 2320/2400, 1530/1600
SAT II waiting for results... TOMORROW!!
No fixed ranking but I'm definitely top 20%, 800 total
Scholarship Program in my school (for top 100 students in terms of academics and ECs)
No GPA but my grades should be all right, I hope...

Thanks in advance!

What HS in Singapore are you from? I ask because kids from several schools in Singapore - I imagine you know which ones - tend to have no issue getting into Cornell. Your numbers definitely put you in the ballpark, but don’t get too anxious about being ‘chanced’; no one here will be able to appreciate the nuances that you’ll (hopefully) include in your application materials based purely on a chance-me thread. Are you considering an ED application?

No, I’m not considering ED in case of a lack of financial aid (ie I don’t get the scholarship) or an insubstantial amount of aid from Cornell… I’m from one of the top few JCs (but not the select two I think you might know), and basically I’m more worried about the whole aspect of Hotel School being more selective (?) then the other Cornell schools. Thanks for your input!
