This might be different for my school, but the ranking that colleges see, what does it include? is it my GPA for freshman, sophmore, and junior year only? or does it include grades from the first half of senior year?

Because im really counting my AP courseload senior year (five) to bulk up my weighted average, which I know they rank us by. but if my rank is only determined by the other years it makes no difference.

its VERY competitive in my grade (but not my school as a whole - the rest is dumb). the cut-off for the top ten will probably be a 97 average

Well I was pretty sure I knew the answer to this question, but I'm honestly not sure. I know that for schools you apply EA\ED to, only Fresh + Soph +Junior counts, because first-semester Senior grades just aren't in yet. But for RD, I know your school sends a mid-year grade report. I suppose there's no reason why schools wouldn't recalculate rank and send it in with the mid-year grade report. I know that my school recalculates class rank every semester, so if yours does as well then even if they don't automatically send class rank to colleges with the mid-year grade report, you could probably ask them to report any change in your rank.

ask your GC - high schools handle this in a variety of ways. You may also want to see if you can obtain a copy of the profile that your HS sends to colleges - it will likely have this information. If it is not on your HS website, ask your GC for a copy.
