What does this mean?

<p>Thank you for your application for admission to the University of Maryland. After careful consideration of all aspects of your application, we are unable to offer you a space in our Fall 2012 freshman class.</p>

<p>Admission to the University of Maryland has become increasingly competitive. While the Admission Committee noted your many accomplishments, space limitations in our freshman class require that we make fine distinctions between many qualified students. Competition for a place in the Fall 2012 entering class was particularly keen as this year's applicant pool was incredibly academically talented.</p>

<p>We understand that this decision is disappointing to you and your family. While it is difficult for us not to admit students whose parents are loyal alumni, the quality of the overall applicant pool made it difficult for us to come to any other decision. Although we are unable to offer you admission for the Fall 2012 semester, we strongly encourage you to consider transferring to the University of Maryland. Students who enroll at a regionally accredited two- or four-year college and earn a competitive grade point average may apply for a future semester. <p>I noticed that it only mentioned fall semester when it rejected me, but doesn't mention spring anywhere. Is there a possibility that i got spring or is this just a flat-out rejection?</p>

<p>Just so you know, I previously said in another thread that chances on here do not matter one bit. It’s how the admission officers view your application.</p>

<p>I got that similar one except mine said, </p>

<p>“If you are interested in updating your application to the following semester, please let us know by sending an email to <a href=“mailto:um-admit@umd.edu”>um-admit@umd.edu</a> no later than August 1, 2012. Once we receive your email notifying us of your intent, your application will be updated”</p>

I think that means you got accepted for the Spring 2013 semester rather than for fall 2012.
Congratulation! I sure hope to be as lucky as you’re!</p>

<p>I also received info about updating app to spring semester and originally thought that they were just telling me I could re-apply for spring. Can anyone confirm that it means acceptance into spring 2013?</p>

<p>Call the office of Admissions to be sure.</p>

<p>I doubt it means acceptance. It just means they’ll consider your application again for the spring semester. Perhaps you were on the border.</p>
