What else can I do?

Hi, I am currently a high school senior. I recently decided to go from a local, cheaper school to a better, more prestigious school since I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing and I don't have the most solid application. I have a pretty bad GPA of a 2.9 as well as a decent (but not solid) SAT score of 1830. My grades so far this school year are much higher and I am in one AP class (note that I'm a senior so I have very few classes). I have a few extracurriculars but nothing too impressive. I've been looking into NYU, Boston University, Boston College, USC, and some UC's. I know it's a bit of a long shot because my grades and SAT scores are fairly average but I know I have potential to do better if I apply myself as corny as that sounds. I heard NYU doesn't require SAT scores if you complete a full years worth of credits but I still want to send mine in when I transfer but like I said, my scores aren't very solid. Is it a good idea to retake the SAT again or do you think my score will suffice? I know schools don't care as much about SATs when you transfer but it still counts as something. It's definitely a late decision but I wasn't even sure if I was going to transfer until recently. Also, what else do you think I should do to increase my chances of getting in (as in extracurriculars and other things I didn't mention/build on)? Thanks!

PS when I say “I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing”, I mean I’m choosing between 2 majors. I’m not just considering applying to schools somewhat carelessly without knowing what I am doing.
