I’m a little bit confused about how college credit works in my school regarding certain regular senior year English courses, for example: Poetry, Drama, and World Literature. Basically, by taking any one of those you have the option of transferring your credits to the college you go to, which I’m a little confused by since these seem more like elective classes. Would being in AP English be more beneficial? I’m assuming that if all goes well, the credits for that class would go towards some sort of required college English course. But I’m not completely sure how all of this generally works.
Not all colleges will accept the college course credits you earn in HS, so you would need to check with each college of interest. If your HS offers AP English courses, it is better to take them at your HS, get a good grade, pass the AP exam and most colleges will accept this as credit. You can take any elective courses which are not offered at your HS at the local college as Dual Enrollment.
Agree with above and it really depends on the school as many schools, particularly the most selective will only accept for elective credit. Most colleges will have a freshman writing requirement and many schools will require a specific number of what are known as writing intensive classes across the curriculum. You cannot make any assumptions about which courses you take in high school will or will not be accepted at college A or college B. You should select the high school courses that are the most interest to you, AP level or whatever your high school either requires or offers.
