I am currently a Junior in highschool and don't want to take college english because I don't feel capable I can pass it. There is AP English 1 offered for Juniors and AP English 2 offered for Seniors at my school. I am hearing that AP English 1 is language composition and AP English 2 is literature. Can someone tell me how this exemption works? I know that if you pass a class then you don't have to take it for college but what I am confused about is: will passing either test exempt me from college english and is only one year of english in college required at the minimum?

Passing the class means nothing to college, but will increase your GPA. Passing the test may bring you college credit; the score required varies from college to college. Many colleges will only grant credit for ONE of the English exams, and in some cases offer more credit for the AP Lit exam than for AP Lang. The college credit may or may not apply to your major; the number of required English classes will vary by major.

You might try the AP forum; you’ll get all the info you want there.

Ahh okay if it helps, the colleges I am thinking about are UT Austin and A&M College Station if anyone knows about their rules. Can you link me to the AP forum? I couldn’t find it :/

Go to discussion home and scroll down to SAT/ACT. AP is a subforum under there–no idea why, but hey, I don’t own/operate the site.
