I am currently a sophomore. The problem is that I have no extracurriculars. Next semester, I intend to change that. The problem is that none of the clubs interest me. I'm not a sports guy either. I don't exactly know which university I wish to attend but a top 50 university is my goal. I am undecided for my major but I am certain that it falls in the realm of math, science, or engineering. So, for example, what should I do if I want to impress MIT? (My school doesn't offer a Science Olympiad club so Math Club is just about my only option).
P.S. I know extracirriculars don't have to involve school but I don't know what else to do. Also, what is the value of volunteering as an extracurricular?

MIT might be an exception but most universities prefer well rounded students.

Student Govt
Sport
Some volunteer work
Extra club (photography, science, foreign lang, etc)

That is 4/10 common app ECs right there.

The point of extracurriculars is for you to spend time on things that are meaningful to you and things that show that you are a net contributor to your school, community, family. Are you so limited in imagination that you have nothing you want to do? MIT doesn’t admit people who don’t have drive and passion and engagement. There isn’t some thing you ‘should’ do or box you can tick off that we can tell you about. Some people join clubs at school, sure. If they don’t like the clubs they start new ones. If they don’t like what they do they change that. Some people get involved in their own learning and projects or find projects to join in the community, the local colleges, etc. Some people with no access do citizen science type stuff. The sort of people who go there are people who build stuff, learn stuff, help people, lead people, or push themselves to learn everything about something they are captivated with. They show passion and accomplishment. So try to figure out what that looks like on you.
