what happened to CS 101e? (CS 1111)

Are they not offering it next fall?

New Codes A-Z: University Registrar at the University of Virginia

That's what CS 101e should be according to the link above, but it's not showing up in the catalog ... only 1110, 1112, and 1010.

I'd really like an "accelerated" programming course if possible.

Galosien, this is not the forum for this question. Why are you posting this on College Confidential?

Well probably because other students (e-school students especially) might have a clue.

Actually I’d also like to know what the deal is with the new courses as well. I mean, I don’t think I ever saw an equivalent of the current CS 1010 before.

Call the department. Get the information from the source.

None of us are first years. And Mech is well, a Mech, and I chose EE to get the heck away from CS (even though they keep dragging me back into it against my will). Dean J’s right (as usual), call the dept or email them.

Edit: one thought is that they may not offer 101E in the fall. Come to think of it, they don’t. Most first years take it in the Spring, so I think there’s usually only one section, at most two, of 101 in the fall. That’s probably why it isn’t showing up. I had a friend take 101 in the Fall his second year (long story) and he said it was full of students who really understood Java and it was a solid class. So, you’d be basically taking 101e anyways.

I have the feeling that Dean J would love it if this forum got back to its intended function – help prospective students learn about UVa – rather than becoming a ***** session about food, SIS,and the honor system. A moderator would be nice.

I wish CC had a “Like” button. You would’ve gotten one Mech.

I already have a soft spot for engineers and those two comments made me love you all even more.

I think it’s fine to talk about hot topics and events that are happening around Grounds. The fact that opinions are shared on a variety of topics (sometimes passionately) shows that college students are as apathetic as some would say they are. However, I have seen a few threads that seemed more fitting for Facebook or Hoo Has It.

no professor is available to teach the course as of yet
kim hazelwood was supposed to teach it but she’s teaching another course now
signed, a cs101 TA

^^ See, that was helpful. (And shoebox’s comment was helpful too.)

Dean J, maybe it’s a bad habit of mine to call department people as a last resort. Department receptionists often seem sort of snappy, not unlike the “whaddya want, boy” treatment you get at Newcomb.

Dining services people are snappy? All the dining services people at Newcomb call me “darlin” (except for the sushi makers, who always thank ME for picking up a pack of sushi rolls, which seems funny since they were the ones who made me my lunch). They all know that I’m administration, not a student. I’ve always found it completely charming.

Well the lady out front is always nice.

Most Newcomb people are generally nice.

Except for several people who work the pasta bar during peak hours…maybe it’s the stress or something that makes them curt.

Catering and Plus Dollars people are always nice, of course.

Not sure, I took CS 101E with Greg Humphreys (best CS teacher ever, that dude was a genius). He’s not here anymore though, and I don’t know what they’re doing with 101E.

uva-avu-uva you were in my 101e class? that was the best class ever. i was that girl greg was always picking on, or alternatively the girl who was always picking on greg.

were you there for this quote (those kids who got caught kidnapping in nova):
“…So I called them and said, ‘Where is my RAM?’ and they sent me 16MB more RAM, which I promptly returned for money back. 95% of the time, you can go to a Burger King, and say, ‘Oh, I was here 20 minutes ago, and you forgot my Whopper.’ And they’ll say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ and give it to you… See, that’s not a felony, Calvin, you can do that and still take your final and not be shipped back to wherever you came from.”

Yep, I was definitely in that class. Do you know what happened to him/where the hell he went?

Bahaha those kids. They shouldn’t have been in the e-school if they didn’t know that using a cell phone was the DUMBEST thing EVER. Guess they slept through ece200.

^^ background plz? ;)

Two UVA e-school kids went to NoVa and kidnapped some guy because they “were bored”. Long story short, they used a cell phone to call for ransom, police had them within hours.

Hmm, but they used CS class to make their ransom phone callls? Or…?

they were in 101/101e at the time…

he’s working on ad optimization or something like that, it must pay really well for him to leave his tenured $93k job haha…
