I'm more of a lurker on the Parent's Thread but I used to enjoy reading her posts... anyone know where she is or am I just missing something?

she's alive and kicking, just check the post about two threads down, about stress and workload

Oops... thanks! Soozie...hope your daughter's doing well at Brown.

Raspberry:

Soozie is busy ferrying D#2 to her various auditions (and fretting about not being able to visit D#1) which is why she has not been posting as much as before.

Hey Raspberry....I still love your posting name...yum.

I'm here and I post pretty frequently. Lately maybe I have not quite as much. I have lost count. I try to keep up. It is school vacation here too and my time is not as much my own. Anyway, like Marite was saying, I have also had to travel alot this winter, eight college auditions in about an 8 week time span with my second daughter. In fact, I leave first thing in the morning to fly out to two more of these and will be gone for three days, and not online. In between those trips, I have been traveling within New England to catch as many of my freshman daughter's ski races for Brown. As she commented recently on one such visit I made to watch, "it's kinda nice Mom that I am on the ski team as I am getting to see you a bunch this winter" which is very true because it is more than I normally would see her away at college but I have been able to travel two to three hours to catch races which is still closer than she is when at college. Anyway, yes, she is doing well and loving Brown so much. If I recall, you are applying there? I can't keep it all straight. If I can help you in some way, hollar....I won't be getting back to you for a few days though. If you ever do a college visit there, I am sure she would host you or meet up with you if you need someone with whom to connect.

Well be well everyone...
Susan

Good luck to your daughter this weekend. Tell her to break a leg--not the skiing one. This is the end of the line for auditions, isn't it? Must be a relief. My friend is going this weekend to auditions as well and she has been going nearly every weekend this month, then will do some visits to the non audition schools just in case in early March. What a process. Truly the most expensive and exhausting route you can possibly go is with these auditions.

You mentioned that D1 is going to Nationals. Congrats to her! Is skiing part of the NCAA structure? She certainly sounds like she is very busy, and the sport takes up an enormous amount of time. Do they have regular practices as well as the meets? One of S's friends skis with a private organization, says that the opportunities are not as good for the guys in skiing, went out west to ski country there, but is not skiing for his college.

Sounds like a rocking crew at Penn state this weekend. You'll have a great time. And it looks like the weather will stabilize to get you to Pittsburgh, and hopefully back to /Vermont. Thank goodness it has been a mild winter. Good luck to all this weekend, and have a safe trip.

Jami

Jami, I'm on my way out but thanks for the good wishes. Actually this is NOT the end of the line. Next weekend, she has Boston Conservatory and THEN that's it.

Other child...all fall had seven dryland practices per week, maybe 14 hours per week. All winter she has ski training away in Mass. two mornings per week when she must board the van by 6:30 AM and is back by lunch. Then she has gone away every weekend to NH or VT.

She is in NCAA but it is very confusing with the divisions. She is in Div. I but it is in the USCSA. That is not the same Div. I with the TOP ski teams in the country such as UVM, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Univ. of Utah, U. of Denver, etc. It is a varsity team. Anyway, I gotta run and I will catch up with you later. I will be staying in your own neighborhood....Shadyside in Pittsburgh. May even being seeing some show tomorrow night at CMU that her friend has to crew for.

Later...
Susan

Susan,

Wow! What a busy, busy time for you and your daughters! I just wanted to chime in and send BEST OF LUCK wishes to your D who is auditioning this weekend (and next!). With three daughters who do MT (but on a much lesser level than your D), I am familiar with the process she is going through, and I know the immense dedication that it takes to pursue such an ambitious dream! I just know she will end up someplace WONDERFUL that will appreciate her awesome talent!!

I'm glad that your older daughter is enjoying her skiing and that she is doing so well at Brown.

We'll look forward to hearing all about the audtions when you get a chance to post.

All the best,

Soozievt - It looks like both of our DD's will be in Idaho for USCSA Nationals - My DD is a snowboarder tho - and boards for a school in the southeast region of the the USCSA - she was also at nationals last year in Maine - and had an awesome time - it is a great experience for them.

I understand you are from VT - we also used to live in VT - I absolutely loved it there - lived in Bridgewater and then in Chittenden. I actually went to college in VT also - years ago tho lol.

Good luck with all the auditions - It is a grueling time I am sure and will be over soon - then you can relax for a bit.

I can attest that Soozie's D is a wonderful tour guide and resource at Brown ... she couldn't have been lovelier to my family when we visited.
