What happens after I lose aid post medical leave

Hi everyone,
I recently started my freshman year of undergrad this fall. I had to take a Medical Leave of Absence for my mental health. Im currently most likely dealing with Bipolar 2 and have been in therapy and psychologist.

I have returned this spring to school. I didn’t finish any credit last semester. I was informed by my financial aid counselor that if I don’t complete 75% of my classes as a full time student in undergrad I will lose all eligibility for any federal aid or loans in the future because of an (appeal) for the medical leave this school and I can’t receive another. To my knowledge what she said is that if I don’t complete my courses and pass I will no longer get any federal aid or loans in the future at any us school.

Im like many who can’t afford to go to school with out it. I’m currently going on meds (seroquel) which has made it tough to get back into the swing of things. I commute 6 miles or a hour to get to school currently. I suffered a panic attack in class and have passed out asleep from my meds in class.

I am concerned that I will not pass/complete 75% of my courses. If so what happens. Has anyone faced the same issue. I know that I will no longer be eligible for federal aid and and concerned that my condition has messed my life up. Has anyone gone through this? I know some say just wake up and do your work or show up to class but when you physically can’t wake up because of medications how dose one approach this. I am thinking of contacting disability services to re evaluate my accommodation and to see if student affairs can advocate for me in anyway but I feel I am at my own will. I really don’t want to lose my chances of aid; my chances of getting a higher ed. Dose anyone have guidance?

Did you get a medical withdrawal from your courses in the fall?

I hate to say this…but are you sure you should be back in school now? It sounds like there are still unresolved issues that are impacting your ability to do your college work.

College will always be there. Right now, you need to take care of yourself first and foremost.

Yes^^^? Do that. Don’t just think about it.

I agree with the above. Honestly, I’m not sure you are ready to be back in college right now, I think you need to get documentation of your medical episodes and condition and get a medical withdrawal retroactively for your first semester.

Ask what options you have for this semester. If you have to continue, can you reduce your course load?
