Hello,
I applied to universities and on my commonapp, I indicated that I am going to take 4 AP exams in May 2016. Unfortunately, I may not be able to take 1 or 2 of them (traveling before the dates and makeup dates of the AP exams). If I enroll in a university but do not send in an AP exam score that I said I was going to take, what happens? I am still going to complete the course, just not the exam.
The exams don’t really matter, you just won’t earn any college credit or test out of intro courses unless you take the exam.
Agree with above.
Thirded.
If the university you end up attending awards credit/placement for CLEP exams in the subjects that you can’t take the AP exams for, pick up a CLEP prep book at your public library, and take a look at the exams. They are shorter than the AP exams, cost about the same as AP exams, and are offered at multiple locations all through the year.
Thanks all for your help! So basically I should be worried about credit only and not admission.
Correct. As a Senior, AP exam results come out well past when college admissions decisions are made. As long as your HS does not require that you take the AP test, you’re fine. FWIW, when I was a Senior, I called the AO to say that I was not planning to take an AP test that I had listed on my application and asked if the uni had an issue with that decision. She laughed at me. L-)
@confusedsenior28 does the school you are attending accept ap to get you out of freshman reqs or towards general credit that saves you $ ? You may regret not taking those tests when you are sitting in a 200 person boring mandatory college writing class that you could have gotten out of. I think the concept of AP is fantastic, allowing kids to get out of those freshman lectures that they end up blowing off in boredom and sometimes getting a bad grade because of a lack of being challenged.
Edited to say: i just saw you were accepted to Northeastern. If you choose to go there and dont take your APs you will certainly regret it later. They are very generous with ap credit and it will give you huge flexibility in your schedule for coops. Check out their AP credit info for each of your APs to see What it gets you out of.
Ivys likely won’t take your credit, so there it doesnt matter… You need to decide where you are going, but I would do everything possible to sit for those tests.
Thank you everyone! Espcially @suzyQ7
I am definitely going to take the AP exams. There was a really low possibility of me not being able to do so. I was just checking to make sure they’re not obligatory.
Thanks again!
