What happens if you don't do an AP exam

I have submitted applications for UCLA and UIUC. On the application, I mentioned that I will be doing the AP Literature exam. However, I don’t really feel like doing it as I don’t think ill do good. I am already doing 7 APs

If I end up not doing it, can my acceptance be withdrawn ? Should I e-mail the university to inform them?

Do it anyway, if you bomb it, it doesn’t matter, you’ll already be admitted or not.

I will have to take additional classes which will be a waste of time.

Take the exam, don’t take the exam, whatever. It will not matter. If you get accepted, your acceptance will not be rescinded because you did not take the exam.

@skieurope

Hey,

Are you sure about this ? Also, are there any possible inconveniences if I decide not to take it? I think Eng Lang can provide me with credit for English; however, I do not see any benefits of taking AP Lit.

@ProBoundz as long as you do not drop all your courses and not take all the APs you said you were going to take, you should be fine. as a second semester senior, i see no reason to keep on pursuing APs, as they are horribly overpriced. i am spending my time mastering League and watching anime. it is a very good use of time. also, did you know that IMO, ILO, IOI, and IOAA are mutually disjoint? which means it is possible to go to four I_Os this summer. that should be your goal.

You can check the colleges’ AP credit listings to see if there is any useful credit or placement that you may get from that exam.

The reasons to take the exams are:

  1. Your high school requires that you take them
  2. Your final grade in the high school class is based on the exam score
  3. You have reason to believe that you will earn a score that will get you credit or advanced placement at the college or university you plan to attend.

If none of those are true for you, save your money, and do something fun on test day.

Thanks guys, I don’t think ill do it then.

@69forthewin‌ what?
.

@ProBoundz Positive. As long as you remain in the course, you are fine.

If your prospective college gives credit of Lit or Lang, but not both (which is the case for UCLA), I agree.

You don’t have to take the exam, but in my school you are typically billed for the AP test once it becomes your official class, so if you end up not take taking the test its 80 dollars down the drain. I’m not sure if your school works the same way, and if it doesn’t then, like the posters above have stated, don’t feel pressured to take the test.

I don’t think if will affect you a lot if you have other solid scores or abilities. For example, one of my upperclassmen got into Swarthmore without any AP exams. Well, but he ranked 2nd in his class (our school is the most rigorous school in my country, Korea, though.) So…yup.

It doesnt really matter if you take it or not. I had to pay for my AP Stats exam and didn’t want to so i ended up not taking taking the exam, still got an A in the class

@ProBoundz lol idk

as far as ucla goes, they say say

So they won’t rescind you if you don’t take it, nor do you need to notify them.
