i am a black girl and let me tell u something... i still have to work as hard as anyone else... applying as a minority does not assure u acceptance into any college it doesn't matter and it makes me sick to think u would change ur identity just to get into a college. most colleges look for someone for their "characteristics and personal qualities" and just by faking ur race is showing them how great ur personal qualities are. u should be confident enough to apply as an asian.. i never get anything more based on my race and i think people need to stop assuming that

P.S. half-hispanic is not considered a minority

But remember if you get caught, your admissions could be rescinded.

If they catch you before you start they could (should?) rescind your admission ... if they catch you once you start they could (should?) rescind your admission ... if they catch you after you graduate they could (should?) rescind your degree. Pretty big down side in my opinion.

The most I would do is to not mention my race. But usually when you do that... they think (o... this kid is asian, etc.) Also, some schools ask for your picture so if you look Columbian + didn't put down a race... All in all, I don't see how it would be worth it.

Hypothetically speaking couldn't you say you 'considered yourself' to be any race you wanted? Isn't that what they put on the app anyway? I mean - I could consider myself to be black despite the colour of my skin... Michael Jackson gets away with it. And if they ever caught me I could just say that I truly do consider myself to be of that race and to label me as 'caucasian' just on the colour of my skin is probably considered prejudice at some ultra-left school somewhere, right?

Note: I would never, ever do this by the by, just speculating...

Oh yeah, and would it be a good idea for whites and asians to tick 'I prefer not to be identified by race' on the thing - or does it make absolutely no difference or even hurt you for being too 'in-the-know with the admissions system'?

So basically you're trying to manipulate the system in a way that it's not designed for for your own selfish purposes?

And it wouldn't work. Colleges ask for a physical, If a physical says you're asian, and their records say you applied as hispanic...

Which box did you check on your apps? "African American" or the "refuse to identify race"?

That's what I thought.

"That's what I thought?" You don't know what s/he put. For all you know she could have put "decline to reply". And even if s/he didn't what's your point? Should s/he deny her race? It's who they are. Atleast they are lying about themselves to cheat the system. Get over yourself.

Realistically nothing can be done. No college will rescind your addmission because of how you identify yourself it happens all the time with native americans. People who have a great great great grandparent who was a native american will claim that they are native american. Even though they will add no diversity to the college and have been raised "white" they will claim to be a URM. This has more to do with your ethics and morals and the way your parents raised you.
