What happens on March 10th?

How do most of the schools announce their decision on March 10th? do they email; if not then what do international applicants do?

My D applied to Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, SPS, Milton, Concord, Cohate, Hotchkiss, Groton and Middlesex

Would hate to wait another 15 days to find out.

Thanks

Choate will e-mail students at 9 AM and then send a hard copy home the same day. I'm not sure about the other schools.

All I applied to email. What a moment!

...which applies to Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield and Hotchkiss from your list says that they don't want phone calls checking in until March 15. I think if you're an international student and haven't heard by then you can call that day.

I believe that, in addition to letters, some schools will use e-mail if they have that information or use their on-line accounts that they set up for applicants...which includes several of the schools on that list. Lawrenceville, for instance, advises applicants to check its applicant web portal on March 10. Exeter and Andover have web portals...though I'm not sure if they'll update them. Hotchkiss has an on-line service...but it's not a personalized portal where an admissions decision would be shared. St. Paul's doesn't have a web portal for applicants. I haven't seen what Deerfield has.

This information comes from the Loomis-Chaffee website (regarding the Ten Schools agreement) and note the part that mentions e-mail -- which contradicts what SPSstudent says (and what I've indicated above in my own post) so, basically, there's no telling what the schools will do unless you read the materials, the web sites and check with the Admission Offices for each one:

"Admission decisions

The ten schools listed above will mail admission decision letters on March 10 to all applicants whose admission files are completed by January 15. The letter will be your official notification of the decision. By agreement, the ten schools will not fax, email or give decisions on the telephone at that time. However, if you have not received your admission decision letter by March 15, you are invited to call, fax or email to learn of your decision."

Most will either e-mail the student or have someplace they can check their status online. They also send hard copies the same day. Many of the schools will send their acceptances by FedEx or UPS, so that more distant applicants can get their letters around the same time as more local students. The denials came by regular mail.

so im guessing if the schools mail it out on the 10th then we should receive on the 11th or the 13th?

I don't know if I'd want to find out by email. There's some romance in waiting by the mailbox and opening the envelopes. If I read it in an email, I don't know that it would seem real to me--acception or rejection. Still, my curiousity will probably win over on the actual day.

is it the same as college? big envelope = better

I think so. In the big envelope, they have contact information and things like that, right?

i think so
my friend applied to private day, and she got a big envelope
and then she was accepted.
so im guessing its the same for boarding?

yes, it is.

St. Paul's will provide students with a username and password in February so they can access their decision on Saturday, March 10. They can call in for the information beginning Monday, March 12.

Hotchkiss will mail out the information on March 10. Thus far correspondence and other materials have not indicated whether they will post decisions on-line. They do have a MyHotchkiss log-in access but it doesn't seem to have much user-specific functionality (in terms of application status or decision information).

The letter from Hotchkiss informing students when they can expect the decision also has some great advice for students: forget about next year and chill for a while on kitchen table discussion of which choice is "right" and, instead, enjoy the moment and your current school year.

Also, if anyone learns of the days that their schools have set aside for revisits, kindly post that information on the Revisit/Spring Visit thread so that it's compiled in one place.
