What has high school thought you?

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: Mixed feelings. I’ve met some pretty awesome and sweet people and grown as a person myself. Loved some classes, hated others. Funnily enough, one of my least favorite aspects of high school is that it’s just boiled down to making your college app better than everyone else’s. I hate it that people feel forced to join clubs and take classes that don’t interest them in the hope that it’ll get them into their dream school, it seems so fake.

Q: Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
A: Pretty happy. I’ve worked hard. One more year to go, so I’m not done yet!

Q: What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
A: Eventually, you are your biggest ally. Not your teachers, not your parents, not your friends, the final push has to come from you.

Q: What has high school taught you?
A: Not to care what others think. To take risks and laugh off failures.

Q: If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
A: I’d have been more “out there” my freshman year. Guys! As a freshman, everyone assumes you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s your big chance to ask for help and make mistakes without creating a permanent bad impression. And later on, you’ll have the knowledge to help others and make a contribution. Biggest regret: being too shy when I had my chance.

Q: If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
A: Yes, I definitely would. There were times when I could’ve been much more focused. And there’s so many opportunities I know about now that would have been awesome when I started out.

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: art, chemistry, english

Q: Least favorite class?
A: gym, health, freshman year math, bio

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: Meh. I hate not doing well, and I’m not doing well right now. So because I hate failure, and I associate failure with school, I’m starting to hate school.

Q:What has high school taught you?
A:You have to choose between a fun social life or academics.

Q:If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?

Q:If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?

Q:What was your favorite class?

A: 0. My grades are awesome but the sacrifice is not worth it.

Do you like high school? Why or why not? Yes, it’s so much better than middle school! There’s so many fun activities at school and my school is big on sports so that makes it even better! On the other hand there’s a whole new level of stress that really sucks. I’m only a sophomore but so far I like it.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school? So far, yes. I got all A’s freshman year, and right now I almost have straight A’s (a few A-'s…). Sophomore year is definitely challenging. I’m disappointed that I wasted my freshman year taking orchestra when I could have been doing yearbook like I am now.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school? I’ve learned that I’m a huge perfectionist and that I just need to stop and take a deep breath and quit overthinking, because it has screwed up a few things.

What has high school taught you? ^

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why? Be more social.

What was your favorite class? BIO.

Least favorite class? Orchestra. Waste of my time last year.

How did you manage your time in high school? So far, pretty poorly. I’m easily distracted and still trying to fix that.

What was your favorite thing about high school? Going to the football games and being on basketball. And joining yearbook. And making new friends.

Least favorite?
Orchestra. Also hating AP Euro right now.

I don’t really feel challenged academically (but I’m a freshman, so things will change)
Most of my friends went to the other high school in town, so it’s pretty boring socially too…
High school has also taught me to use the word “taught” instead of “thought”.
Not trying to be a hater… :)

^^^And I thought I was the only one who caught that.

Currently a junior

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: My current one is fun, stressful enough, but not too hard. Freshman year was horrible, as I was bullied a lot.

Q: Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
A: Somewhat. I left many “points on the field” and left classes with 88’s and 89’s, which certainly harmed my GPA. Besides these that fell just short of the mark, I think I tried my best in each class (after freshman year, I wish that never happened).

Q: What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
A: Great test-taker, need social support to thrive.

Q: What has high school taught you?
A: Being friendly to teachers, making friends, writing long papers correctly.

Q: If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
A: Going to my current school freshman year, and not getting pulled out for 8th grade classes. My GPA would be so much better.

Q: If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
A: All of them? No

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: Three way tie between AP Stats, APUSH, and APWH

Q: Least favorite class?
A: Pre-CalcH, freshman year. We had a 90 year old English Fidel Castro. Arrogant, also. Saw no point in people doing more advanced work than he did in high school, and made that known.

Q: How did you manage your time in high school?
A: When I’m motivated, I do the hard homework first and the interesting last. When I’m not, I goof off and wake up early to finish stuff.

Q: What was your favorite thing about high school?
A: 10th and 11th grade.

I wrote this thread on my iphone on a bumpy buss, and it corrected “taought,” to “thought.”
I didn’t notice until it was too late, and when I edited it, it kept it the same for some reason.

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: High School was a roller coaster - I made friends, lost friends, experienced failure, known success, fell in love (though, I suppose it was more the dull, sublunary, ever changing love that lacks depth), had my heart broken. During High School, I’ve been at my happiest and my most miserable. To say I liked it doesn’t really capture how I feel about it. I think that I definitely liked certain parts of it - the academics, for sure, certain people made my life better, etc - but at the same time, there were a lot of people who really actively tried to make me miserable at the same time.

Q: Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
A: Yes. A thousand times yes. There’s no point in me harping on pointless details like how I should’ve taken AP Stats as a Sophomore or took Geometry over the summer - thats all pointless; really. At the end of the day, I know that I tried (for the most part) my hardest and I reaped success from it.

Q: What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
A: I learned that happiness is an inside job. I know its a cliche but really – you can be happy. Regardless. You can be going through holy Hell and even still, you can be happy. But at the same time; sadness is not something that should be denied. Pain, as John Green said, demands to be felt. There will be hard times. There will be times where you think that the sun will not rise tomorrow - and that’s fine. Let the sadness wash over you. Sadness is natural. People were meant to feel sadness. But at the same time, do not dwell on pain. Everyone feels pain but the human soul and mind were never meant to carry the burden forever.

Q: What has high school taught you?
A: The world isn’t against me. Everyone is fighting their own battles, they don’t exist solely as nuisances in my life (ex: the Freshman who INSIST on standing in the halls on my way to English…) - everyone has a story, and not everyone is looking to be the villain in mine.

Q: If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
A: For the first two years of High School, I was very angry and vindictive. I destroyed a lot of great friendships I had because of my pride. Thankfully, I changed that come Junior year where I got into a fight with my closest male friend and apologized immediately because I didn’t want to lose him like I lost so many others. I would go back and maybe try not to let my pride get in the way of my relationships with others.

Q: If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
A: I’d redo Sophomore year, that’s about it.

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: I’ve liked all of my classes bar Algebra II Honors. My favorites are/were AP World History, AP English Language and Composition, and Biology Honors.

Q: Least favorite class?
A: Algebra II Honors.

Q: How did you manage your time in high school?
A: Poorly - but perfectly, if that makes sense. I am a horrible procrastinator but my BS is absolutely flawless.

Q: What was your favorite thing about high school?
A: The classes and the teachers.

Q: Least favorite?
A: Some of the kids there - mostly those who cheated, manipulated, and deceived those around them. People who lived to see others suffer. People who spoke volumes about me behind my back but kept their trap shut if I was in the room because they were cowardly little rodents, lol. I never cared if people disliked me. I don’t wake up every morning in hopes of impressing Jane or Rachel or the rest of the Varsity Cheerleading Team. But its just yucky when people find it necessary to talk smack when you’re not there to defend yourself but they would never, EVER, consider saying it to my face because they can’t take what they dish out. LOL. I’m over it though. That was something I dwelled on Freshman and Sophomore year when I was angry and vindictive - now, what people have to say doesn’t even register in my mind. I got my own priorities and concerns.

Q: Rate your high school experience (socially) from 1-10.
A: 5.

Q: Rate your high school experience (academically) from 1-10.

Graduating senior here.
Did you like high school? Why or why not?
I love high school (though maybe that’s only because all I can compare it to is elementary/middle school, which was a living h*ll). I love the opportunity to learn for its own sake, to take diverse electives, and to be surrounded by an intellectual environment. I’ve also made some (really 99%, actually) of my best friends in high school, and as I’m going to college with some of them as well, I think those friendships will last. There are some problems with my school, like a horrendous commute and an ever-changing administration, but overall it has been fantastic.
Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
Mostly. I think I could have worked harder- in middle school, I was too used to coasting, and when I finally hit a place where I needed to work to keep good grades, there was a bit of a learning curve. I work much harder now than I did in middle school, but I still feel like I coast overmuch. I’m definitely going to work on this in high school. But otherwise, I learned a LOT, discovered my passions (medicine and history), undiscovered a passion (English- not that I don’t love reading its literature and writing creatively in it, but I still can’t BELIEVE I wanted to major in it…), stayed basically status quo on a non-passion (math), tried contests and programs I never would have imagined in any other context, and, I think, became a stronger, more well-rounded, and more mature person than I dreamed I could become.
What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
I won’t find motivation anywhere- I have to grow some on my own. When I’m not motivated, I become dangerously lazy and tend to slack off, but that doesn’t fly when you’ve got a lot of work, you want to pass a class, you need to get into college, etc etc.
Also, yes, I have the potential to have friends. I just didn’t discover nerds until high school :). I would not have made the friends I made in high school anywhere else and I’m extraordinarily thankful.
If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
Assuming I would come in remembering what it was I was supposed to change, I would find my friends a lot more quickly- I tended to be in the wrong social circles in ninth grade so it took me a while. I might possibly have self-studied precalc, but probably not.
If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
No. It was awesome, but once is enough, and college is going to be great too.
What was your favorite class?
A tie between AP Biology, Human Genetics, and Creative Writing.
Least favorite class?
Anything containing the word “math” in the description. There are also some teachers who I just kind of clashed with, but as they taught several classes I can’t say which one was least favorite, and really it was the teacher who was the problem in each case.
How did you manage your time in high school?
I didn’t, which is something I regret. An approaching due date usually means that I have however many days before I need to start. At least one term paper (which got me a 97, incidentally) was written the day it was due.
What was your favorite thing about high school?
A tie between my friends and my classes and extracurriculars. Just being in an atmosphere where learning is valued so much is exhilarating.
Least favorite?
I’ve had some principal issues. And the commute. And math.
Rate your high school experience (socially) from 1-10.
Hard to say- my individual friends 10/10, holistically more of a 7/10
Rate your high school experience (academically) from 1-10.
9/10- I loved most of my classes but some of them I just… didn’t.

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: Sometimes, I love it. Sometimes I don’t. Depends on the day and how I feel about myself.

Q: Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
A: Kind of. I’m happy with my grades, and what I’ve done through one club, but I feel everyone has accomplished more than me and will accomplish more. I guess I should stop comparing myself to others.

Q: What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
A: My biggest flaw is holding grudges/resentment/hatred of other people.

Q: What has high school taught you?
A: That if you can you learn to love yourself, life is so much more beautiful.

Q: If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
A: I would not care about getting into college by a rigid path, and learn to be okay with getting into a decent school.

Q: If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
A: Not really, I guess I’ve learned a lot of important lessons from my mistakes, and you learn from your mistakes more than anything else.

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: Spanish 2 for the non-stop laughter, AP English for an intelligent but humorous class.

Q: Least favorite class?
A: POE freshmen year, Honors English 10.

Q: How did you manage your time in high school?
A: LOL.

Q: What was your favorite thing about high school?
A: Becoming introspective and less shallow than middle school. Learning to realize what matters in life, and understanding myself in a way I never thought I could.

Q: Least favorite?
A: I could have handled certain social experiences with more care.

Q: Rate your high school experience (socially) from 1-10.
A: 8 in school, 2 outside of school.

Q: Rate your high school experience (academically) from 1-10.
A: 7. Classes are a breeze even when I finish my assignments in 5 minutes, but the teachers are interesting, and I’m starting to think critically. (Maybe not well, but it’s a start!).

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
It’s okay. I know that there are better things out there, and I feel a little cramped by requirements made by the state and school about what I can and cannot take

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
I’m happy with the things I’m attempting to accomplish in the future, since I’m only halfway there.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
You have to be prepared for everything. You’ll say that you’ll never lose this friend, but you might. You’ll say you’ll never forget to do homework, but you probably will.

What has high school taught you?
How to take standardized tests and please teachers. But seriously, I’ve learned more about personal relationships, besides obvious school subjects.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
The fact that grading is subjective. If you have a teacher that hates your writing, you’re screwed. If you have a hard/easy teacher, you’re not graded on the same scale as everyone else.

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
Well, nothing particularly bad has happened, but I’d like to redo freshman year and not get sick and have to makeup freshie gym :)

What was your favorite class?
Bio was fantastic because I love biology, but AMC (required American history course freshman year) was so enjoyable. My teacher would have us hid under desks and reenact trench warfare and tell us stories about how she used to go to art school to be a florist and how when her leg was asleep she thought she had this horrible unexplained paralysis that an old friend of hers suffered. That sounded a lot funnier in context…

Least favorite class?
Ugh well I like the subjects that I’m taking but dislike the class. Spanish III is sooo boring right now.

How did you manage your time in high school?
I kinda just go home and do homework. If you don’t wait until after dinner to do homework you won’t be up until one. I also eat dinner SUPER early, like when I get home from school so I’m not interrupted.

What was your favorite thing about high school?
Indoor Percussion.

Least favorite?
Couples making out and center court: this center hub (our school is wheel shaped with little spokes and stuff) that gets so crowded during passing periods. A friend of mine was in some giant seniors was so he got picked up by his backpack and shoved over.

Rate your high school experience (socially) from 1-10.
I love my band and percussion family, as well as my academic family, so 10, so far <3

Rate your high school experience (academically) from 1-10.
As stated, I feel slightly restricted, and a lot of my classes are so boring that I do other homework in them, but on the other hand, I have some really passionate teachers and engaging coursework, so probably a 7.

High school is not the best thing; I know there are better things out there, but it is better than middle school.

Hey guys!!

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
I’m currently a junior, but I am not liking it so far. This is partially due to my expectations as an 8th grader.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
For the most part. I wish I did better Freshman year.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
Don’t take yourself too seriously. Never settle.

What has high school taught you?
I’ve learned how to deal with people I don’t like. I also learned… well… everything my classes taught me.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would want to take more challenging courses freshman and sophomore year. That would’ve helped me now (I would’ve been able to take more AP classes).

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
Definitely.

What was your favorite class?
My favorite class so far is PreCalculus. My teacher is amazing haha.

Least favorite class?
Morality. I don’t like being graded on what I am supposed to believe.

How did you manage your time in high school?
45min of studying then 15min or working out over and over again

What was your favorite thing about high school?
I loved getting more and more confident in myself (being less socially awkward) and gaining friends.

Least favorite?
I didn’t like being with people that complain about their grades but don’t do anything to fix it.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
Numerical grades aren’t everything- what matters is how you got that grade.

What has high school taught you?
Teamwork

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would have talked more with people I liked- made more friends. I am learning so much about these people this year, and I wish we were better friends.

What was your favorite thing about high school?
