I got into the college of Letter and Science in UC Berkeley, but I just found out that I cannot submit the IGETC certification becuase I missed one Art course. The admission officer told me that my admission is in jeopardy and I need to turn in an appeal letter explaining why I cannot meet the conditions of admission. The art class is the only class that I missed. I am really scared and worried because I got everything settled down for Berkeley and the school almost starts.

I am an out-of-state student and I lived with some relatives in California while attending college there. In fact, I was planning to finish that class last spring semester, but the relatives whom I was living with have some family problems and they moved out of California in late-January. It was so hard to find an apartment in the middle of the smester so I need to drop all of classes and quit the school, plus my parents decided to send me to another state becuase I have some relatives there. I attended a four-year university there .(I told Berkeley about the change of school and they said it's ok) But since my schedule changed, I was not able to finish that art course and Berkeley doesn't have an agreement with any out-of-state schools.

I got a 3.96 GPA in the community college and a 4.0 GPA in that university.

Did anyone ever get into this kind of situation? Do you know how high is the chance that they will cancel my admission offer?

I do not know how high of a chance, but I suggest you start writing that appeal. Ask your admission officer if they can grant you concurrent enrollment at Berkeley City College and finish up that art course there and have them IGETC certify you.

Appeal! If you explain the situation, and it is legitimate in their eyes, I’m sure they’ll give you admission, but it might be conditional (take the class or maintain a specific GPA).

collegeboss: UC Berkeley told you about that? But I am in the college and Letter & Science and it states on the condition of admission that IGETC is a MUST.

I explained to them my situation and it’s true, but I am not sure if it is legitimate in their eyes.

You need to contact your admission counselor immediately and explain your situation and see what you can do. I would be surprised if they decide to cancel your admission.

I conatcted my admission counselor once I found out. But she said that my admission is in jeopardy. She asked me to write a letter to the appeal committee and explain to them why I can’t meet the condition of admission. They gave me a chance to explain, doesn it means anything?

I am afraid it will be too late becuase I already agreed with the condition of admission and at the time I am not certain about the IGETC requirement.

write the letter. my friend got in for architecture and had to drop one of his prereqs (calculus) during spring. His admission officer is letting him finish Calc 1 over the summer and calc 2 at berkeley in the fall. if you give them a good explanation they’ll probably let you finish it in the fall.
