There are other stuff but aren't too important.

So go ahead, make my day:)

I see that your school does not rank. This may have impacted your acceptance to the various honors programs. I would suggest your GC contacts admissions and ask about the honors college rejections - they would likely have been looking for top 10%. Your GC really should go to bat for you on this. You are in a Georgie Tech - just not the scholarship - correct?

Duke is a reach, but you never know. You should have a good shot at Vandy, and a decent one at Emory.

I don't understand the UC's - I alway guess wrong and somebody yells at me.

Good luck on the rest of your colleges and let us know.

ecnerwalc3321:

Duke: Reach
Rice: Slight Reach
Vanderbilt: Match
Emory: Slight Reach
UCB: Reach (out of state, engineering)
UCLA: Reach (out of state, engineering)
UCI: Match (out of state)
UCR: Safe Match (out of state)

That's what I was thinking. My class only has 25 students. GC said that when he sent the transcripts, he put me as top 10 %, meaning the top 2.5 students. That probably killed me. Thanks to you who replied. Anyone else?

dude how did they all reject u
ur stats look pretty good
did u screw up royally on ur essay or do ur teachers hate u???
wow i never though a person like u would be rejected to all those schools
uga honors must be really hard for out of staters
im prolly gonna put uga as one of my safties when im a senior but still apply to honors program
hopefully u will get into one of those schools
just pray to God
dont worry be happy :)

ahem spanish honor society...do u just have to have an A for the first report card or what?

stupid EC fluff. clean it up. loser.

Im not sure about Emory being a slight reach. I think you have a really good shot there as well as Vanderbilt. I think they're probably matches for you since you exceed there avg gpas and have a high sat. Just make sure you make yourself look different through your Ec's ect. Thats what is very important when applying to somewhere like Emory.

"GC said that when he sent the transcripts, he put me as top 10 %, meaning the top 2.5 students. That probably killed me. Thanks to you who replied. Anyone else?"

If there is any chance you might need these schools as financial safeties, have your GC or a parent contact the honors program and talk with a real person about it. Many honors programs look the other way in matters of rank, and the rest of your app is good.

Right now, I 'm just not sure of myself because two of my in-state schools just rejected me from their honor's program. My confidence probably dropped 100%. I'm pretty sure I had good recs and essays though.

I can see that. Your GC needs to get on the phone, and contact the honors programs, and figure out what happened. This is part of your GC's job. If you don't want to ask him to do this, have a parent (the meaner parent, likely your mom) talk to him, so that he will do his job.

Your stats and related stuff are all good. Rice is very competitive, so don't worry about that - could have gone the other way just as easily. Keep the faith - its not that long till April!

thanks for the help and tips ohio_mom! FYI: I was (re)admitted to my own state's honor's program after I talked to my counselor. we had a long talk and he sent a recommendation letter and talked to the guy at the honors program.

Glad to hear that L, I thought they might let you in, they should be very familiar with your school, size, rigor, etc. I know some classmates of my daughter's who will probably go that route, and it is getting more competitive. THis wasn't Computer-Based Honors was it? I know that one is very competitive now.
