what instrument do you play ?

I was just curious what everybody else plays, how long they have played, and what song they're playing right now

Trumpet, since 4th grade. Not playing any songs currently, but some great songs we played last year include The Chicken, and Red Clay

I sort of play the piano, but I don’t really practice anymore. I’ve been doing it off and on since I was seven or eight.

Clarinet since 5th grade, tenor sax since last year as a freshman, some percussion since freshman year, and I used to play the violin from 4th-6th grade.

I’m pretty damn good at the triangle

Trumpet, currently trying to play through all of Sketches of Spain. Also, trying to use my keyboard to be like LCD Soundsystem

Piano for ?13? years, working with my teacher on the first movement of Janáček’s “In the Mists” - the first half of this video if you’re curious, it’s pretty funky, especially the middle part <a href=“Janacek - In The Mists [1/2] - YouTube”>Janacek - In The Mists [1/2] - YouTube;

Learning a solo piano version of Bach’s BWV 639, “Ich ruf zu dir Herr Jesu Christ” on the side <a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube; Saw it in a Polish film and fell in love…

The kind of Polish films that feature that kind of music are usually the really creepy/transcendentalist stuff, but the song is pretty cool!

@Apollo11 the film it was in was “Ida,” and it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Not really creepy, but generally just really interesting and kind of trippy sometimes… it’s about a girl who has to visit the her one surviving family member, her hedonistic aunt, before she takes her vows to become a nun. It’s set in the 60’s and is filmed in black and white. Literally just the coolest thing. ^.^

Oh, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing! I love foreign films with such a feel to them. Quentin Tarantino made this really cool speech about it at Cannes and the use of music in those movies, while haunting, is hauntingly beautiful. I really like films and in another life, I’d have tried to get into the film industry.

I’ve played violin since the 4th grade (I’m going to be a junior now). Yeah, it’s the steroetypical asian instrument, [but I chose the violin at that age, I wasn’t forced to play it]. I’m learning how to play Vivaldi’s Concert in G for an audition.

I know how to play songs from animes and games as well. Such include Chrono Cross, Attack on Titan, Game of Thrones, and Kiss the Rain from Yiruma (not anime, but sill a beautiful song)

Not knowing of the stereotype, I initially chose violin, because I thought Amar Bose of Bose Electronics was super cool and he said he played violin so I thought I’d be really cool if I did so.

Years later, I cringe at that thought, especially since I’m an avowed anti-Bose guy

I actually played quite a few. I’ve played piano since I was about six or seven years old, and since then I have taught myself guitar (just basic chords, bar chords, picking, etc.) and drum set, and joined percussion in band two years ago. So basically, I can play a lot of things that aren’t wind instruments…

I would love to learn how to play the cello in the future though. That’s a life goal of mine.

Does the kazoo count??

piano since age 4- quit lessons when I hit 9th grade, but still play jazz (was in school jazz band, just graduated)
oboe since age 9 just learned ewazen hold fast your dreams
(also play english horn, baroque oboe as secondaries; have also gotten to play bass oboe, and am acquiring an oboe d’amore)

What is it like to play an oboe? They sound amazing, but are they difficult to play?

@Apollo11‌ at the beginning it’s a little difficult but after a year or two its not that bad. It does have a lot of pitch tendencies that you need to learn to overcome though. And those pesky reeds… grr, it seems as though when ever you find one you like, the weather changes and it doesn’t work anymore or you break it.

@guineagirl96‌

That’s cool. I think it’s really interesting in that it has all of the annoying key positions to remember like a flute or saxaphone, yet one also has to make a lot of different tones and tongue movements, like the trumpet.

violin for13 years? (lol)
