In short, at the end of the year I will have 70 units and a 3.5. So I was wondering what universities I can transfer into from SJSU (San Jose State). I want to go into Computer Science. I obviously cant get into Stanford or Cal, but I dont want to go to CSU Humboldt or CSU East Bay.
Basically, does anyone have any good recommendations for the best CS schools l to transfer too.
Thank you!
Agree with @ucbalumnus. SJSU has one of the best CS programs within the Cal state system. I am assuming you are not in the CS program there?
You seem you would qualify just based on GPA.
Details of the policy are:
Students must be in good academic standing to be considered for a Change of Major.
Applicants must have achieved both a sufficiently high SJSU Cumulative GPA and a sufficiently high GPA in courses that are required for the major at the time that the application is submitted. For 2017-18, a GPA of 3.4 of higher is sufficient in both cases.
Applicants must have completed the following courses with a C or better by the end of the semester the application is submitted:
CS46A, CS46B, CS49J*, Math 42, (students with fewer than 60 units)
CS46A, CS46B, MATH30, MATH31, MATH42, one upper division CS course (students with 60 or more units, but less than 90)
Santa Clara might be another option…
There is nothing wrong with SJSU. But I want to be farther from home. My dad went to stanford, and my brother went there too. My brother lived on campus, but could bike home within 15 minutes. I didnt do too well at high school, so I only got into CS at SJSU, UCR, UCM, UCSC, and UC Irvine in state. But due to private medical surgical reasons, I couldnt go too far from home. I would have to take two years off, and they would make me apply again. And I wanted to start classes as soon as I could, and be able to go to my monthly neurosurgery appointments at Stanford Hospital (that end in may 2018).
Now that I will be down at the end of this year with my appointments, I wanted to apply next year.
Basically, I just want to go to another area, somewhat a decent distance from my home, you know? Otherwise its not too different than highschool really. My parents are a bit too attatched.
I am happy to hear your medical situation is resolving.
SJSU has an outstanding CS program - so, perhaps you could find some room-mates near campus and stay put. If you want to stay in N Cal, I’d apply to UCSC and Chico. Maybe Sac too. That’s 3 very different environments and 3 solid CS programs.
