Please help a girl out, what kind of people feel at home here? What is the college stereotype?
Are there more liberals or conservatives? Do a lot of people party/do drugs?
I can only speak to my son, who is a second year student. He is a very bright, non-partier with a passion for social activism. He does a lot of volunteer work, studies a ton and loves to socialize in smaller settings (he hates parties).
The school really does have a great mix. And many students straddle different areas (ex. my D has worked with football players on theater productions etc.) I really think anyone can find “their people” at the college.
Any one please assist me with minute details of Lafayette college student life.
^^btlsmum described the exact student at Lafayete
My daughter is a current first year. Was a very serious student in HS but loves to join clubs, do sports and hang with her friends, all of which is she is doing in abundance at Lafayette. She is also going to parties every weekend to my surprise as she wasn’t much into them in HS, though was very social. She is extremely happy so far and is making very good friends. Though it isn’t the most diverse school on paper, she is meeting pretty diverse kids - various religions and countries and from what she tells me people are pretty open and friendly, even the athletes. She’s an art and neuroscience major, which at Lafayette doesn’t seem strange at all…
In my opinion (I’ve only been a student for about 11 weeks, so take my opinion with a grain of salt):
Lafayette students have a strong work ethic and desire to succeed in academic pursuits, but love to have fun - whether it’s partying or a lowkey movie night with friends - and to be involved in everything the college has to offer.
I’m also a student at Lafayette. The school is about 75% liberal 25% conservative (based on a poll my FYS sent out about the election, so those aren’t random numbers). Pretty much everyone can feel at home here, everyone I’ve met has been incredibly nice (both students and faculty). We like to have fun but we work hard, too. Alcohol is as prevalent on this campus as it is at the average school, and a handful of people do drugs but it’s not big.
