What is a "meal"?

I'm considering what kind of meal plan to buy when I get to SB, but there's one thing that's very vague in the whole thing.

What is a "meal"? 9 bucks to spend on whatever you want? A pre-packaged dinner tray or something? I'd like to know exactly what you get with each meal.

And if anyone has any advice on the meal plans. They look appealing because it's only a couple dollars more per meal when you go from 10 to 14 to 19, but does that make it worth it?

A “meal” means you get to go into one of the dining commons for whatever designated meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night). You can stay there for as long as its open for that meal, and you can eat all you want. They generally have a lot of options to eat as well. Also, you have 4 different places to go (Carillo, De La Guerra, Ortega, or Portola).

I would say get 19 meals, but you could get by pretty easily with 14 and just steal food outta the dining commons (they let you bring in backpacks, so its pretty easy to steal food).

yeah it was about 12 bucks a meal this year, it will probably go up next school year but you can eat as much as you want during breakfast lunch and dinner during the hours they are open. They took the trey away this past school year so its harder to get all the food at once. I only went with 10 meals a week cause you’ll get sick eating the same thing everyday for a year, with 10 meals i could eat other stuff on the weekends.
