Food & Meal System

What's the meal system at UCSB?
I'm really picky and will probably end up eating mainly Panda Express, Jamba Juice, (both on campus still, correct?) Pizza, and microwave Mac & Cheese most of the time.

How does it work? Can my points for the cafeteria go towards other on-campus eateries like Jamba Juice?

I was JUST about to ask this question. You literally beat me to it by like, a minute.

I’d like to know how it works as well.

I checked the site: [UCSB Residential Dining Services Home](http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/dining/default.htm)

How is the food? For you current students or students who know if it, is it convenient? Is the food good? Is there plenty of variety? Is the food good?

…

Is the food good?

haha i also wanted to know about this. Im assuming its good tho cuz i heard ucsb is one of the healthiest schools

Yeah one of my teacher’s said “the food is actually pretty good.”

And thanks for that link.

dot. food is actually a big deal if you’re going to be on a meal plan there.

the meal system is one of the ****tiest i’ve ever experienced. when you apply for housing, you get to pick between 10-, 14-, or 19- meals and you have that many meal points per week. if you dont use all of them, you lose them and if you go over, you get charged $11. if you have friends over and they wish to eat at the commons, you can’t swipe them in, rather, you get charged $11 per person. meal points are only accepted at the commons, but you can use them at any of the 4 commons on and off campus. however you can put money on your id card and use it like a debit card for any other eateries or the various convenience stores on campus and the iv market.

The meal system is pretty ridiculous. I can’t believe they trash the ones you don’t use at the end of the week! Most students say the food is pretty good, but when I went to an orientation last year, we got to eat at Ortega. My bf and I didn’t think the food was that good at all. There’s pretty good variety, but it didn’t taste that great. When I go to UCSB, I’ll get a meal plan for at least a quarter, just to try it out!

Emilay.
There’s only one problem with that plan: if you’re living in the dorms you are required to have a meal plan for the duration of your residency in the dorm halls

If I were to get the lowest, could I jump up to the next level at anytime?

I believe you can but you can only do the opposite (going from more to less) once a quarter or only at the beginning of the quarter I don’t remember.

Hm…alright.

I’m wondering if I should go for the 10 or 14 one.

I have the 14 meal plan which gives me about 2 meals a day and it works out just fine. Lunch and dinner and occasionally take milk out if the commons so I can have cereal in my room.

Hmm, that’s true… didn’t think about it. I’m going to try the meal plan over summer… and then during the school year I’ll just move out into apartments, so I didn’t even think about that… Sorry bout that.
