Have some notes that highlight why you are applying for the job / what makes you special

Stand up while you are on the phone, you will speak more clearly and confidently

Before the call is ended be sure to re-express your interest in the position

Try to express your excitement, and develop some good questions. The better / more specific your questions, the more likely the employer is to know you are interested. Also, after the interview is over send a follow up email, but don’t just say “thanks for the interview,” say something meaningful. It may seem like nothing, but it could push you over the top!

Whatever you do, make sure that you have your phone interview from a land-line phone. It’s something that a lot of people forget to do, and it makes a huge difference.

It’s pretty creepy. My brother had a phone interview with Cornell and the guy asked him, “What’s your favorite brand of canned soup?” My brother said, “Chunky’s.”
