What is a PRS Transmitter?

Damned if I know. But it's required for Chem class and doesn't seem to be included in any of the bargain books online.

its an infrared remote. usually the prof will make a digital "poll" or something, and you can participate by pressing the buttons.

it gets beamed up, and since you register it, your answer can be recorded

i know some teachers give extra credit for participation (cs61c), not sure about chem

Chem 1a gave extra credit for it... it was something like the percentage of days you attended class x your total homework score for a max of 35 or some wierd crap like that (Prof. was Nitche - sp?). Then also the day after a midterm we'd have the 2 or 3 questions missed by the most people, and if you got those right you'd automatically get those points as though you didnt miss them on the midterm (or even, extra credit if you got them right). :)

So, all we need is the required materials, right? What's with the recommended materials? They look like the same thing.

Where are you finding out these recommended materials and what not? I don't have Chem 1A, but ppl have been receiving syllabi and what not, I have received nil.

When you click "Buy Textbooks" in either Bearfacts or Telebears, it takes you to the "Books In a Box" page which takes you to the Cal Student Store page. There it lists the books you need for your classes and Chem 1A has a bunch of required materials and a list of recommended materials.

eiffel, I only received an email from my gsi for one class a few days ago. Other than that I have received nothing. I searched around using google and found the syllabus for another one of my classes. So I doubt you're missing out on anything too major.

also, you should check out Blackboard.com and make an account to see if any of your classes are up. http://blackboard.berkeley.edu

Lyrical: I've already bought my textbooks a long time ago, well most of them. But since I have a no-lab/no-discussion science course and the rest being humanities, I probably don't need all that stuff. Hence I probabaly didn't see all that stuff. Thanks for clearing things up.

Geminihop: Thanks. I'm checking it out now.

no prob, eiffel. :) Only one of my classes uses Blackboard, but there seems to be quite a few on the system.
