Found on old thread here from 2008 (wow!) - are baked goods and homemade thank you cards still the answer to the question?
D23 had several teachers who wrote for her - would like to thank them appropriately (and contemporarily! )

A nice verbal thank you or nice email thanking them for their support.
That’s it.
My daughter brought her favorite teacher (and LOR writer) some swag from her chosen school. He loved it, probably because no one from her hs ever went to this school (until the next year when another student also did). Most was stuff they handed out for free at the fall visit day like stress buster squeezing things, cups, lanyards. I think she actually bought a coffee cup too. She remained friends with this teacher for years.
I had cookies made with the logo of my daughter’s college that she chose. You can google bakeries online to have them made
My kids wrote a nice, personal thank you (which named the college they were going to attend) and gave it to the teachers with a small gift (our HS has a strict limit on the amount allowed for teacher gifts). I think a gift card, a nice box of chocolates, or anything along those lines would be appropriate.
FWIW I think my kid’s teachers/counselors appreciated the note even more than the gift.
We waited until the week of graduation to give these out.
Kids write nice thank you notes. We got each teacher a gift card to the coffee shop they stopped at on their way to work. They all did!
