What's an Appropriate Gift to Thank Teacher for Writing Rec?

A teacher who wrote a recommendation letter for me now teaches at another school. I want to get him something to thank him for writing my letter! What would be an appropriate gift to send his way? Thanks. I was thinking a box of chocolates, but I'm not sure if that's too girly lol?

Ha, maybe a mug with a gift certificate to something like starbucks?

I'm giving all of my teachers pastries from the nicest local bakery and a short, handwritten thank you note with specific comments about their classes. I think edible gifts are the standard around here, and usually sweets. I know one girl very sweet girl who gave a teacher a pineapple.
A box of chocolates would probably be fine.

if i was friends with the teacher than i would just give him a hug and if its proffesional than a thank you card

Personalized thank you card and a little gift (optional) like chocolate or mug or gift card (<10 dollars). That's what I would do anyway...

Thanks a lot guys! Yeah I'd give him a hug but he works at another school now and it's pretty far away lol. Great ideas!!

Wait, we have to gift them a thank you gift?!?

You don't "have" to, but it's definitely a polite thing to do.

I'm gonna bring in boxes of chocolates and thank-you notes on the last day of school. It feels really awkward to try to do it right now while I still see them every day.

^^ yeah, I'm not giving my teachers their stuff until I find out which school I'm going. It's just to awkward to pop in randomly every time something happens.

nothing. my teacher wrote me something really generic..... i was really ****ed off about it.

Ha- I'm not even allowed to see mine! I can only hope they wrote good things lol

I didn't see mine, either, but I got a letter from one of the admission officers who said that they'd been "glowing."

I went to both my teachers one-on-one and I said thank you for writing my recommendation and stuff, but I didn't really get them anything. I kind of want to though. And in the weeks before I found out I told myself I would get some flowers or something to give to Guidance because they've done so much in helping me. Then I didn't. But I really did appreciate them and my teachers.. so I think I'll do what goldenrationphi said and bring in stuff on the last day of school. It seems like that'd be good closure for high school.

My mom really overdid it with gift cards to nordstrom's, and I wrote each teacher/counselor a card. Most people did anywhere from 5-50$, and most gifts included a card and a giftcard, mug, or sweets.

a thank you card/note/letter with a nice personal message would be nice.

i think what's even nicer is for a teacher to also receive a letter/email (and maybe a college souvenir like a t-shirt or mug) from the recommendee once they're already in college.
