My daughter is applying to Columbia. She has a great uncle who attended. Does this count as family alumni?
Mbe

It may count as a family alumni, but it doesn't count as a legacy. The only alumni considered legacies (legacys?) are the parents of the applicant. In other words, her great uncle's alumni status won't increase her chances of acceptance.

Plus, they only count if they were undergraduates.

He was an undergraduate. Does putting it her hurt?

For the record, my son's grandfather was an undergrad, but he did not put it on the application, because they ask parents only. I don 't suppose it would hurt, but I'm pretty sure it won't help.

Your application is flagged if you have a parent or sibling who is an alum (or attending, in the case of a sibling).

What about an uncle (as oppsoed to a granduncle) - any help??

As stated above, they are pretty clear that it's parents only.
