For me, “good” is receiving any aid at all.

How do you get the Cal Grant A?

cal gran B is better, you receive more money over the long run. you receive only 1.5k first year and 1.5k + 7k every year after that. plus, if you receive cal grant B you get a higher UCSD grant which is better because the university is less like to go bankrupt than the state.

If I’m not eligible this year, can I still apply next year?

2nd year here.

Getting roughly around 15k is good. That’s actually what I got to start with, and I still remember :D

if you decide to not dorm at school and live at home, would they lower the amount of gift aid given to you?

Any package that allows you not to stress over your finances is good.

Any package that gives you more than you need is an incentive.

^ pretty much that.

When I take into consideration all my expenses, I’m usually up about 500 bucks every quarter.

It’s a great feeling :D

It’s not official right now and can change. Mine says it’s being updated right now and I can’t see it, I had around 17,700 in gift aid. I hope it doesn’t go down.

With an EFC of 0 and living off campus, what is the total gift aid going to be? HOw come everyone here as a 25,000 cost of attendence. Mine is only 19,000

Blove are you a winter admit? And even still, your total cost should be around 17,000 for winter admits.

Oh nevermind, it changed after the update…my total cost is now 24,000

Pell Grant $5,350
Possible Cal Grant B + $1,551
Academic Competitiveness Grant + $750
UCSD Grant + $9,069
Other Outside Aid + $0

Total Gift Aid = $16,720

Total Student’s Share = $8,350
Federal Work-Study $2,850
Subsidized Stafford Loan + $3,500
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan + $2,000

Total Parent’s Share = $0

I LOVE MY FIN AID AWARD! woooooooooooooooo

my efc was 0 and my parents make about 20,000/yr…which was actually over what we make.

@lala91: haha same here but it is still pretty pricey in comparison to UCDavis where
my total student share is $2750…

hey and you said your parents make under 20,000… check out the blue and gold uc grant( google it/on ucsd finaid site) you might not to pay anything at all :]

^^^^ Why did you get such different packages from UCSD and Davis? did you get Regents at Davis?

And, isn’t the UC Blue & Gold program scheduled to start in a couple of years…unsure when?

do you have to apply for it or something? cuz why didn’t they give it to me?

ucdavis cost more for me to go…like i have more work study and stuff

oh nope i didnt get regeants but really now UCD and UCSD… la jolla is a more upperclass area as opposed to davis… so im assuming since location is a factor my finaid for each school is different. for example UCSC i got a full ride with all the grants and such.

and nope the uc blue and gold plan starts in fall of 09 :D

[University of California - UC Newsroom | UC Regents approve policy providing minimum aid for lower-income students](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/19471)

oh hmm lala91, well im like 2 hours away from UCD… maybe thats why… hmm idk?

and nope you dont have to apply for it… the grant takes place once you enter into college supposedly…

hmm i think i’m gonna call the ucsd fin aid office on monday and find out. cuz when i was reading i think they just said it covers only tuition and since my tuition is covered…but if I didn’t have any loans…well that would be amazing!!! haha but i’m still really happy with my package. i haven’t really seen other people with much better (maybe a little bit better)
