I am waiting to see my FA and it is killing me. Could you post school, effect, gpa, and FA amount. How much work study can one get?

I think you can get up to 9k in Federal Work Study…I haven’t got my FA package either I got into UCSB waiting for that and still pending admission for UCSD, UCLA, and UCB.

Should remake or bump this topic by the end of April once transfer decisions for all schools are out…

Just got my “Unofficial” package today from UCSB:

"Unofficial Grants and Scholarships$20857
Possible Cal Grant Eligibility$12192
Federal Pell Grant$5730
UCSB GRANT$2935

Unofficial Work-Study Eligibility$2000

Unofficial Loan Eligibility$7200
Federal Subsidized Direct Loan Eligibility: Direct Loan Eligibility$5500
Federal Unsubsidized: $1700

Unofficial Total Aid$30057"

GPA: 3.255
Major: Sociology
Personal Statement: 8.5/10 (very disadvantaged)

I hope it turns out I get more grants/scholarships, but I’ll find out after I SIR I guess.

Wow, that looks great. What does “unofficial” mean though? Man, I see why people go to the UCs now, over CSUs. Better education (debatable), and I am guessing the same amount of aid. Tuition is higher, but aid seems good for you! Would you even need to take a loan with that package?

^I got pretty much the exact same numbers as you.

I’m hoping for more aid lol like the FSEOG Grant and maybe a scholarship so that I won’t need to take out loans to pay for housing, I don’t want to have to work while I’m just getting used to the quarter system pace but idk yet I’ll know once I SIR lol

It’s just Unofficial for now

Wait, some FA can go toward housing? Which parts of it?

All of it? lol Except of course the Cal Grant or Blue and Gold that goes toward tuition.

So things that can be used for housing would be:
Work-Study Money
FSEOG Grant
Pell Grant
Scholarships
Work Study
B&G that exceeds tuition costs
and any other Grant/Scholarship you have been awarded

I have a question on the Unofficial Award letter there was a breakdown of actual costs and among them:

“Tuition and Student Services Fee$12192
Campus Based Fees$1555
Health Care Allowance$2569”

What exactly is the “Campus Based Fee and what is the Health Care allowance?”

@Matt4200 I’m extremely jealous of you right now. I only got $8,000 in grants (all of it’d ucsb grant) and I’m expected for $22,000 in loans. $5,500 sub $2,000unsub $14,000 PLUS.

where can you find this? I didn’t get an email or anything

@Matt4200 Where do you check your unofficial package for UCSB?

check for it on the ucsb admissions portal and there should be a link that says check my financial aid status

Yeah check on the UCSB admissions portal under check my financial aid status.

@mr401k - it’s still all unofficial you could get more if you SIR.

That’s a lot in loans though! why so much?

When i go there, i don’t see anything other than the new applicant page. hmm

@jenling01 - Have you been admitted already? If yeah has it been one week since you were admitted?

Oh and if someone could please answer my above question like 5 posts up plz that’d be great lol

@Matt4200 I believe it’s because I didn’t receive any other grant or scholarship but the UCSB grant. I don’t think my parents have much to contribute out of their own pocket, so I’ll have to use those loans.

My parents might be getting divorced though this year, so that would definitely help me out a great deal for next year’s FAFSA.

@mr401k - and they make more than 80k?

Did you get any work-study??
And you’re not Cal Grant Eligible?

Yes I got in on the 17th last Monday. I have a feeling mine’s delayed because of the mix up with my citizenship status so I hope it will appear soon
