What is each dorm like?

Anyone here live in Austin, visited UT-Austin or currently attending UT wanna explain each dorm? Someone I know says I should go into Jester...

Thanks

They ARE SMALLL!!! Yeah, like most of the people from my school are going to Jester West. Jester East is where the jocks are I think?

San Jacinto (sp?) has the best dorms in my opinion, but it's much harder to get and you have apply like really really early and turn in all that stuff so I've heard. It's also more expensive. Basically the dorms consist of two rooms with a bathroom in the middle, 2 people to each room. Umm, single dorm rooms have to share a community bath. O_O

Is Jester considered the "party dorm"? Does the food suck there. I was looking on hornfans.com awhile ago and they said Castillian ( a private dorm) had the best dorm food. What is the reputation of each dorm?

From what I've heard, San Jacinto has the nicest and cleanest public dorms. Jester is the central dorm in campus so I'd say that it's pretty likely that it's the party one. But then again isn't all of them?!?! Haha. Yeah I got a lot of mail regarding the Castillian. Dunno bout that one yet. I haven't even gotten to food yet. Haha. My friends haven't said anything but they didn't ever say it was bad.

Just to clarify something. "Party" keeps popping up in this thread so I thought I should let everyone know (if not already known) that alcohol is absolutely forbidden in ALL on-campus dorms, not to mention illegal substances. I'm told that violations to this is dealt with harshly.

Ok well what if you're over 21? Then what? Is it still banned?

Yes, it is. Most campuses in the country have the same rules

Who said you have to have alcohol to have a party. I have been to some really swell parties and there was not a drop of alcohol or drugs in site.

Whether you choose a suite with a private bath shared by four people (2 bedrooms) or settle for a single room with the community bathroom down the hall, you will still have to deal with the personal hygiene habits of people you don't know...especially us guys. We're just plain nasty in the bathroom.

Actually, the community bathroom isn't as bad as it sounds. Most colleges will clean and maintain it daily, and it is a good place to meet your dorm mates while you all wash your face, brush your teeth, etc. Just remember to bring flip-flops for the shower, a water glass or disposable drinking cups and a bathrobe.

That, and possibly getting a roommate from hell are the biggest challenges of freshman dorm life.

just to clarify.... most rooms in San Jacinto have their own bathrooms... a private bath shared by 2 people, not 4
