Which dorm room would be the funnest expiernece. ill be a freshman white male and I would prefer a private bathroom with like one roomate and i heard that jester west has this...not intrested in san jac because it didnt seem like much of an intresting atmosphere. Also considering private dorms like towers and castillian but not sure how far of a walk these are...Which of these dorms do yall think would be a good fit?

um...no. do not live in Jester. you will have a much better living environment/time if you live in Dobie or Towers or Castilian.

Whys that? Jester looked a little trashy and the rooms were small but are the private dorms that much better? I was thinkin jester because of the buffet and all that good stuff...but i heard towers was the place to be...and castillian just looked like a good deal

If you want an affordable comparable off campus dorm, do Castilian. It's cheaper than San Jac, even if you get the unlimited food plan. Jester is a piece of crap compared to any of the off-campus dorms, that's why they exist.

Towers is a party dorm, and a lot of Jewish and pre-frat people live there.

Dobie is quiet but the nicest, but more expensive (Towers is kinda pricey too).

I stayed in Jester West this summer. My room reminded me of a prison cell (discalimer: i have never been to prison)

I didn't think Jester was all that bad--It wasn't fancy by any means, but on the college dorm scale, it was better than a lot of universities.

MTV chose this place recently for their Real World Auditions - that has to tell you something right there. Also, the UT football camp chooses to hold their Summer Camps at The Castilian. They could choose any place they wanted to on or off campus but they select the Castilian. Really when you see this place, its amazing. I live there now and this place is 1) the cleanest dorm on campus 2) the best food on campus 3) the best location -- right smack in the middle (but across the street from campus).
You should know that there are a couple of bad posts about the Castilian on this board and others but go check this place out for yourself. You wont' find a nicer staff anywhere and the maintenance of the place is top notch. The elevators are great. A couple years ago they had a heating issue that was fixed with all new equipment from what I hear - it just won't happen again -- what are the chances. Visit Dobie and its like a prison. Towers is like a dump. On campus is a guess -- sometimes ok and sometimes not. I would live here again in a second.

Um...no offense "longhorndude" but you seem to be very interested in the Castilian, even bumping up threads from TWO YEARS ago to say how cool it is.

Do you WORK for the Castilian?

no, i tired to work for them though. It's that nice of a place. They wouldn't hire me as a freshman in the office.

What's going on, longhorndude? Sales have been slow and below target? I saw you have been very aggressive with your Castillian posts today.

Lmfao. Well Castillian is off my list. xD

lmao longhorn dude, that makes me NOT wanna choose the castillian. thanks :D

that's your choice -- obviously. I'm just saying that this place is a lot nicer than whats in the area.

what's with all the jester hate? if you think the jester rooms are small, you are spoiled by UT's dorms. on many other campuses, rooms 2/3 the size and with much less closet/drawer space fit 3 people.

if you choose jester west, the odds are you will NOT have a private bathroom. most of the rooms have community baths; very few are private.

if you want my opinion, dobie, castillian, and towers all suck. the reason you think they are your only choices is because they advertise more than anyone (and send really inconspicuous [sarcasm] representatives to sites like these, but a lot of places do that, especially when people start giving them negative publicity).

most of your classes will be between 21st and "25th." to give you an idea, san jac, jester, and dobie are on 21st. castillian's only selling point is that it's very close to campus on 24th, right near the math/engineering buildings (that walk sucks every morning from jester). towers is farther down 24th (the farthest place you mentioned).
