I have always heard the sticker price is not the real price of school. Is this true? Is so, how much is the general tuition for GW?

give or take few hundred to a thousand or two as compared to the price listed online

Not sure what you mean. Tuition at every school increases each year, usually just 1-3 thousand. GW will freeze tuition when you enter so you pay the same amount each year. In addition to tuition, there is room and board (Most colleges are roughly the same, around $8,000-$10,000) plus various fees (Such as Student association fee, Lab fees) that are a few hundred dollars tops.

Not many people pay full sticker at GW however as GW gives a lot of Financial aide and scholarships.

Agent1 - I’ll assume you mean “Cost of Attendance”, not admission. Otherwise, the cost of admission is strictly your application fee.

See the below link - it’s very close to what’s on the website. However, depending on which dorm you’re assigned is could be a few thousand more.

Now, this is the “sticker price”. Some pay this amount some don’t. The sticker price is reduced by any financial aid award received. GW gives both merit and needs-based FA. The amounts for each student will receive vary tremendously depending on many variables.

Wow, that’s a lot of money. I can’t seem to shake this thought out of my head but…what’s the point of applying and getting accepted into GW if you know you can’t afford it.

Good question.

If your grades and standardized tests are high, you could get a merit scholarship.

If you are admitted with need you’ll get FA.

If none of the above, then you should choose another school, like an in-state alternative.

Private schools are expensive across the board. Not everybody can afford to go, unfortunately.

schmohawk, she is back, look at her profile. Why a 21 yr already at GW want to ask these questions? just fyi

She must have a good reason. Hope she will let us know why.

Agent1? I’m not so sure. He’s been posting similar (and reasonable) questions since the summer of 2009. He has a similar question on the American page- seems to be asking if the tuition is at all negotiable.

I got a lot of money for GW. I’m still hoping to get the scholarships I applied for so I don’t have to pay a cent, but GW gave me roughly about 38k of grants and FAFSA gave me about 9k.
